Switching between ADSL and cable connections
MAC codes won’t work if you want to switch from an ADSL provider a cable provider like Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com).This is because the cable connections don’t go through the BT exchanges and MAC codes do not work. You have to disconnect the present connection and the cable operator has to come to your home to set up your cable internet connection. The set up fee has to be paid additionally, which may be around £30.
On the other way if you want to switch from a cable connection such as Virgin Media to an ADSL provider you need to have a BT telephone line installed to your house, if not already present, BT will charge around £125.
Further there will be a break in your broadband connection during the transit period. You have to contact the new service (ADSL) provider who can asset you in installing the BT land line before connecting to your new ADSL provider.
