Asked for code more than 10 working days ago. No code. Asked why I was changing. Said customer service. Had 5 minutes of why my BB speed would be low (copper cable, end of line etc) and wouldn't get better with different provider. Said - didn't say speed, ssaid service. i.e. 5 min sales pitch when all I requested was MAC code My experience of Tiscali/TalkTalk prioblem solving - useless. Can't wait to switch , when I can

I am unable to get through to Tiscali who have a tag on my line which means I am unable to get hold of the Mac code which means I am unable to get a new internet provider. Please help.

I signed up with SKY to get Anytime+ which requires Sky broadband - they require me to get a MAC from Tiscali (TalkTalk)I checked talk Talks website and the request they claim can be made by email, calling them or by letter. I emailed them as I knew I would have wait in a queue to get hold of customer service.I got an automated email telling me that they would contact me within 24 hours, but if took longer to bear with them?? NO RESPONSE WHATSOVER after that, I called them again and the woman was adamant that I was stupid to leave, that my router should be upgraded- even though I have a Draytek 2820, I spent 20 minutes tryng to get a MAC code from her, with no luck, she kept telling me that she would give me a months free credit and to go away and think about it!!??! I ran out of time on the call and had to put the phone down and made another request online again, two days ago... STILL NO RESPONSE! I have now made a complaint.. Next stop will be Ofcom..

Had a great deal of difficulty in convincing the guy at talktalk (tiscali) to give me a Mac code. But his persistence of trying to talk me into staying made me more determined to leave! If it wasn't for the fact I needed a Mac Code I'd have slammed the phone down on him. Several times. Pointing out he's obliged to give me a code and that I do not have to justify my reasons for leaving made little difference and am seriously considering putting in a formal complaint, especially if the code does not turn up quickly.

OMG - I am trying to change to Sky from Tiscali. I got through to the cancellation department but the chap I was speaking to kept going on and on (and on) about how much cheaper they could offer me a similar package for, despite me telling him numerous times I was keeping our line rental with BT and wanted to change the B/Band to Sky as we were with them for TV/HD and can therefore get the new Anytime Plus service and all the other free bits and bogs they are offering us. EventuallyI had to get quite stern with him (LOOK - I HAVE MADE UP MY MIND - CAN I JUST HAVE MY MAC CODE)!!! I thought i'd cracked it but after taking my details he put me on hold again, during which time he had "gone to speak with his manager" who, when he came back on the phone, advised me apparently is with Virgin for Broadband(spot the irony) and she gets Sky Anytime+ through them?! Perhaps she does - I had lost the will to live by then. I now await my MAC code.....

still no broadband service from talktalk, sky have sent another (unrequested)MAC by mail and keep e-mailing me to do a satisfaction survey. tried using e-mails with talktalk as phone calls taking up hours. they wanted bank statements to prove double payment taken. not happy with that - it is quite clear on their statement. asked again about the item marked "refund" they said it was cheque sent to me to refund double payment that they wanted me to send bank statement to prove! told them I had not had cheque and asked for cheque number etc so I could report it to post office or police. they refused.

latest update, got my mac by post and e-mail, passed it on to sky. got a call from talktalk business saying that i had tried to cancel while still in contract. told them I had not requested to cancel my business line - only my domestic line "oh well thats nothing to do with us" ws the upshot so they cancelled the cancellation.got a letter from sky on 2nd april saying they had a problem with the transfer. spoke to them and they seemed to think thatthey could get the phone over ok but not the broadband and would request btopenreach to explain why. today i got a letter from sky saying they were sorry that i didnt want their service and supplying me with a mac!! phoned them up and they said it was a mistake (indeed!) but that I would have to have a new phone number if i wanted their service as there was a technical problem at the exchange.... not sure what to do now - tiscali service is still not working...

Tried calling Tiscali to get a MAC Code as I want to move to BT. Was given the run around by them despite repeatedly asking again and again for a MAC Code. They are a joke, they ignore what you ask and just play their spin. I've emailed them on their complaint system, but that takes up to 2 days to get a response. Given the endless complaints you see on the web, you have to wonder what the regulator is doing about this sham!

here we go... been with tiscali for about 6 years, four years ago i moved from my old home in helston to a brand new one in falmouth (same std but different exchange)was told i couldnt transfer my number as it was a different exchange. got a new number and phone worked fine. no BB though, lots of calls, lots of excuses (previous owner of the new number had tiscali account and same surname they claimed amoungst other offerings) took about 3 months to sort it and they closed and erased my e-mail account in the process! last 4 years have been fine execpt since talk talk took over last year I haven't been able to get into "my account" on their website. last week lost my BB service, after a long chat to 2nd line support he said that my service was partially barred and he couldnt see why, would get customer services to sort it. 2 days later no change so called and did some equipement checks etc, eventually concluded that i was right there was a bar on the account and would be cleared within 2 days. decided to move to sky. falmouth is a tiscali llu so was sort of surprised when sky confirmed next day the date for the BB service switch. decided to look into things and found that I could get into "my account". found that they had taken double the bill amount out of my creditcard account in january but that it was at least credited to my tiscali account so no great harm. then found in march they debited the overcharge from my balance with an entry marked "cheque refund" - i havent had one and didnt think that they could do a refund other than to the creditcard a/c. phoned them again and asked for a mac. they now reckon that the broadband has always been supplied to my old number at helston while the phone calls relate to my new number! well i dont have a 15 mile range on my pc so dont see how. was offered £5 compensation which i said would gladly have but still wanted a mac and a refund of the overcharge. they said 5 days....

Im disgusted with talk talk i requested my MAC code and they transferred me to a travel agents (who was actually legitimate). I cant believe theyre getting away with this! I was also lied to several times yesterday which led me to cancel my contract with them! how can OFCOM let them do this?

Couldn't have been less helpful. Gave me an invalid MAC code and then just kept sending me the same wrong one. Very frustrating.

Completely unhelpful and attempted to stall the whole process. Would not provide a MAC over the phone to allow me to swap. Keep you on hold and would not transfer me to the Manager (Austin) who was on duty.

I am still waiting for Mac Code. They seem to be very reluctant to send. I have been waiting since Wednesday 9th February 2011. My broadband has been down since2nd February. They are very unhelpful.

tried ringing today to request the mac code to leave tiscali/talk talk or to look about for a better deal thats quicker and was told because i am not the account holder but the spouse of the account holder she would have to ring and request the code. i have always delt with the phone stuff and never had an issue with tiscali and they have always done what i have asked being the person who set up the broadband and phone account in the first place in my wifes name. i will ask her to ring and request it but i see no joy there either.

Tiscali kept me on the line for 5 minutes or more, and then said they would sent it to me. They refused to give it online, despite the implication in the BT application dialogue. So I appear to have no alternative but to abandon my attempt at buying BT online

Lots of people having problems, indeed more research necessary maybe. I called for mine and the guy I spoke to said I didn't need one as I had everything with them, provider would just take over at exchange, this IS TRUE if you are an MPF customer a new provider will hassle you for a MAC code that's because the Sales dept at BT or other generic company follow a script and ask you to obtain it without even checking for line. In my opinion the sales dept of other providers are so inept that they send you off looking for something you can't physically have. 2 hours wasted, ringing the CS dept of potential new provider and hay hoe, tiscali were right. Was so angry I rang tiscali and took them up on 2 months free service just so I can calm down for a while and see what I want to do then. No contract just credit to my bill, 1st month free done. 1 to go

When TalkTalk increased my monthly rate for broadand only (no telephone calls) from £14.99 to £19.99 I had to do something! After 20 minutes on the phone (08000490049) I was told I had to contact Tiscali on 08712223311. I phoned 08450774488. Within 5 minutes I was transferred to someone else who offered me a reduction to £16.99, saying I lived in an expensive area. When I asked for my Mac code, he agreed to put in the mail within 5 days, but the very next day I had it by email. So far so good.

Requested a MAC code from Tiscali on 29th December by recordeded signed for delivery after failing to get through by telephone or email. The letter was neved actioned despite being received on 31st December. I telephoned om 10th January to be told that a code would be with me in 48 hours. Telephoned again on 15th January still no code only to be told that it cannot be expedited and have to wait another 5 working days.They really do make it hard for you to leave! I will definitely be making a complaint to OFCOM.

requested Mac code 4/1/11 not recieved by 14/1/11 rang was told not generated as there was a cease of service on my braodband but no evidence of it on system, dont know what going on have requested mac code again today have been told will take 5 days!!!! ironic got an email 5/1/11 from talktalk requesting how they did, have to say i told them exactly what i thought of service!!!

Been trying for nearly 2hrs to talk to someone to get MAC code as I want to leave tiscali/Talktalk been passed piller to post. They could have kept me as customer only if they get me to someone who could talk prices with phone and broadband, may just go with BT at least you get somewhere.

Talk Talk/Tiscali are useless if you call them. In my experience they try to retain you as a customer and fail to generate MAC code when requested. Bypass them and phone Opal (who are the business division of Talk Talk) and they will politely deal with request and email MAC Code - 0845 263 7276. Good Luck !!!

Having great difficlt in getting Mac for tiscali phoned number 0845 077 4488 got though after 5mins and got advisor who said would issue code to me now been waiting 5days. so i called that dept back today and was told reason why not got code yet as not got broadband serivce with them but i sighed up about 4years ago before there talktalk took over a've already tryed to call talktalk and guess what tey told me dont have broadband serivce with then. now starting to get annoyed by this. And i've went ahead to set up account with bt but waiting on mac.

Having a call from them offering to continue my contract i said yes as i had no problems up until then. He said on the phone that they will try and increase my speed also. Great right. Except since then my speed dropped to virtually zero and the line sounded like a box of rice crispies when on the phone. Over the last couple weeks line is dead and no broadband at all. This has been going on for 9 weeks. When asked them for MAC codes i was told i dont need them, as i have my line rental,phone and broadand package. But new suppliers want one. No phone, no broadband, no joy! Avoid TALKTALK like the plague.

I am so fed up of tiscali/talk talk.. after very frustrating customer service when I moved home I still decided to stay with them. but when they increase my bill from £14.99 to £19.99 that was the last straw. I called (contact number given to me from BT, trying to get a contact number from their own website is vertually impossible!) to get my Mac code a week ago & was offered a better deal.. not that great, i had made up my mind to leave. i was promised the MAC code withing 5 working days.. 7 days later I called again & was told the same thing.. will wait & see..

have requested Mac code 3 times, keep getting told that this will take 5 days or 48 hours by email, as yet no code, have escalated this and got a phone call from them, they yet again advised that it would be another 48 hours, suprise no Mac code. Have now wrote to Ofcom, and cancelled direct debit. These people have no idea what they are talking about, and are unable to perform the simplest of request. get out while you can.

Rang the number above The lady seemed to think I just wanted to change my phone line and kept saying I did not need a MAC code. She said she was talk talk and not tiscali and then gave me a number to ring 0845 077 1435 which was the very number I had just rung. anyway my mind is now made up I will leave Tiscali what ever it takes.

Just phoned Tiscali to get MAC code. Was on £7.50 package here like others which was doubled when Talk Talk took over - not impressed! Was dreading having to fight but no fight at all! Just told them I found a good deal elsewhere and when asked if I would be interested in staying if they offered me a better deal, I said no!! Hope to get the code soon and hope it works!

I have today asked for a MAC code as I've got fed up of Tiscali/TalkTalk constantly harranging me to take a new contract out for 18 months when I've been a customer for 5yrs+. Having also been paying £15 pm for extremely poor download speeds. When I requested that they do not contact me as I've recently suffered a bereavement - the request has been ingnored. Today I've explained that I wanted a MAC code and trying to explain reason just kept getting hard sell - in the end put phone down as they weren't listening to me.

After reading all the other comments I called with gritted teeth. I got a nice chap who did try to offer me deals but I felt that if I had to be on the edge of cancelling for them to offer me a better deal they're not really a company that values my custom, especially as it was they who doubled my bill from £7.49 to £14.99. (As others I'd been with them for 7 years) He tried offering the first 3 months free and then £9.99 after but I played that game with tiscali before and they never reduced the bill for the "free" months. So after a final snipe about me choosing to move to a more expensive supplier he agreed to process the MAC code and text it to me within 24 hours. Who would want to do that job?? Poor lad, but let's see if I get my code before I start to feel sorry for him

I asked for a mac code at the end of August from Tiscali which is now Talk Talk as they decided to double my payment from £7.50pm to £14.99 and change the date of my payment from the !st of the month to anytime after the 20th which was no good for me, I was sent to the retentions who said they could get it down to £9.99 but it will still come out whenever they feel like it. I went with o2 instead for £8.00pm. If tiscali would have left it how it was or charged the £9.99 rather than messing me around I would probably had stayed with them. I did have to ask for another mac code too as the first didn't work so be aware they may give out false ones in the hope that you decide it isn't worth the hassle contacting them for another and when asking for the other mention you will inform ofcom should it not work again.

I just called Tiscali to request a MAC code and they were very helpful. They asked my reasons but were not pushy in any way. They advised that i could get a deal of £9.99 a month for the package i am on as i have been with them for so long but did not put any pressher on at all.

Hey everyone, As a tiscali customer I am aware of a few things that it seems some people on here aren't. Firstly, If you are an MPF customer you cannot get a MAC code you are on tiscali equipment at the exchange, another provider will take you over manually or in some instances charge for a new line (sky wanted 39.99 to do this). I was not contacted with regards to better deals available because I had ticked the 'do not contact me with promotional offers' when I signed with tiscali, instead the agent I spoke to in the retention dept said the offers are always available online. I followed his instructions (while keeping him on the phone while he advised me how to get these deals up) and there they were, I was paying 17.01 plus 7.01 Line rental, plus VAT, on the website I was able to have 22.48 all in (incl VAT) and the guy I spoke to said I could either do it over the web, or if I do it with him on the phone I would get the first 6 months half price, BARGAIN! Had 3 months half price now and all going well, got a free router in the deal too. My advice, anyone wanting a better deal, call up the retentions team and mention you're looking around before actually doing so, the will pricematch pretty much anything out there.

Tiscali operator argued with me for about thirty minutes refused to give me code until I spoke to a high level help desk regarding my problems. I insisted that they could not help me before, this was costing me 8 per minute and before I got my code my house phone ran out of charge. I found them hostile and argumentative and frankly insulting. My iphone will not work with my wireless however it works every where else.

A little tip - tell the Tiscalli agent that you are recording the call in case of any delay, ask them to confirm the date and time. MAC code delivered by email in under an hour !

Having read some of the horror stories I wasn't too hopeful but so far so good. We were kept on the line for 20 mins or so whilst Tiscali tried various offers. Then they used the old trick by saying the computer is slow, please hold the line. But once they had exhausted all options, they gave me the mac code within about 10 mins, first by text and then in an email. Assuming the code is correct! we should be switched next week, fingers crossed.

Just rang Tiscali to get my MAC code - got the usual offer of a supposedly better deal (NOT)then when I still said no he wanted to know what was better about the package I was switching to etc.. This went on for some time but I wasn't going to be turned! I was then put on hold for ages (whilst he nipped out for a coffee!?) then I was told the MAC code would come within 5 days. He was very polite and didn't put up too much of a fight. Now have to play the waiting game.....

Thanks to everyone who has reported this waste of space called Talk Talk. I have lost my TV service for the past 3 days and have been told on lengthy phone calls that it will be okay tomorrow. I have just written to the CEO of Talk Talk, and if not satisfactory, I will pursue them through the small claims court for loss of money and inconvenience of having to switch supplier. I have been a Tiscali customer for 9 years with the full package (line, calls, BB & recently TV). Never had a problem, ever! 2 months with Talk Talk, lost TV signal twice! WHY??! Everyone should transfer from these clowns and go anywhere else! Colin

I too had letter saying TalkTalk couldn't support my business service. Rang 0800 298 2981 sugg. by Steve(24/8) and after 8mins music&"Thank you for calling Opal" A very surly woman(Jo) answered "I'm Pie-Pex...you are residential...why are you calling me?" She couldn't even give me another no. to ring. Called 0845 077 4488...who told me he was for residential and I'd have to call business team on 0845 263 7276. Another 9mins in a Q...and I was told I was residential, not business (odd-I pay for business package). He tried to order a MAC code..."its not supposed to...but seems to have worked-with u in <72hrs"...only another 70 to go..I asked for correct no to call just in case-gave me 0871 222 3311 "Say you're B to C" I'm not holding my breath. Oftel or whoever should to do something about this-suppose that's cloud cuckoo land as all ISPs just as bad.

I have tried all day today to get through to Tiscali to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about (I originally simply wanted an upgrade). This has been one of the most frustraiting experiences of my life. Because of this I decided to change service provider. I waited for half an hour to speak to someone - it was the wrong number and I was informed it was costing me 50p per minute. This service is the worst ever!!!!!

Just rung Tiscali for my MAC code. No hard sell (well no sell at all) but I was told I couldn't have it as I had renewed my contract on 17 July when I upgraded my line. This was news to me! Apparently the records don't show if it was me that requested the upgrade or the system. I said if I had requested it I'm sure they would have the details on the screen. They said I had to contact head office - so I asked for the number, but guess what......you have to write to them. It just stinks.

Gave a call to Tiscali (Talk Talk)to obtain a MAC code for my departure from tiscali!! On hold for a minuite, was told the code would take up to 5 days to receive. Got a text within ten mins!! All seems ok so far!!!

A letter saying they were going to discontinue my service and "upgrade" me to OPAL was the final straw. I started the Tiscali/TalkTalk/Opal merry go round of 0871/0845 and 0800 numbers. I started with the number on the website. After 15 minutes got through and was told I had the wrong type of account and that I should call a different number. Called that and after another 15 minutes was told that I wasn't their customer and that they would put me through to someone else. Fortunately I asked for that number, as I was on hold for 15 minutes before giving up and doing something useful with my life. Called the number (0800 298 2981), and was put in a queue. After 15 minutes I elected to use the OPAL call back system only to be told that while I had been on hold, the office had shut and could not take callbacks outside of office hours. Called back next day and got through in about 5 minutes. Was asked if there was anything they could do to keep my custom... "Even if you gave me free broadband... I wouldn't take it from you" seemed to work the magic. MAC code arrived on my mobile 30 seconds later! Joy oh sweet joy. Tiscali/TalkTalk/Opal should be avoided like the plague. If you are a Tiscali Business Broadband user then the direct number is 0800 298 2981... but I wouldn't be surprised that it gets changed very day to confuse us. At least it is a free phone number.

I was a long standing customer of Tiscali and objected to my monthly bill going up to £19.99 following the takeover by talktalk. I rang the cancellation team using the number from the website. There was no hard sell, probably as I made it clear I wasn't staying, and had a MAC code by email in about an hour, followed by SMS and letter versions. Transfer to Zen took about 5 days. Excellent service up to that point. My final bill from tiscali then arrived which included £350 for early cancellation (18 months worth) of a contract I don't have. Obviously very unhappy, especially as they say it will take 28 days to investigate and they expect me to pay up in the meantime. They don't seem to give a fig. Can see this going to court.

"24 MINUTES LATER" i got through. £18.99pm i pay currently (just broadband) i am able to get phone + internet for £20pm. they re-offered me £28pm for phone + broadband when i said no i was told there's is the better deal!! £20 or £28 where do they get these ppl? my maths isn't great but good god! very hard sell

When is the UK law going to change to allow me to authorise my chosen new provider to get the MAC code!!!!!!!!!This is driving me insane I have better things to do with my life than spending hours on the phone to Tiscali(first call at premium rate then I found saynoto0870.com)then waiting days for them to provide the blessed MAC code. This must stand for Make A Charlie of yourself trying to transfer internet providers! Spleen vented I shall retire to the Pub.

Very pool Service, received letter advising I was getting disconnected. I was assured this letter was a mistake. My service was disconnected and when I called advised there was nothing they could do about it. I rang for Mac code (waiting 20 mins) to be told i DON'T NEED ONE. Can;t transfer to sky without it!! Have contacted Talk Talk to get MAC code. Got Lionel to help me. This was one of the worst hard sell calls I have ever had to endure. He would not listen when I said I would not change my mind he went on and on about how good a deal I would get from them. BT would rip me off etc etc I had to endure this for 15 minutes. He then accused me of being rude. It then turned out he could not riase me a mac code because I was a tiscali customer. I will never deal with Tlak Talk because of this phonecall.

I'm not convinced that they have generated one yet but will phone again. Very bad customer service, if I wasn't sure about the whole changing and MAC code process they would have convinced someone to stay as they were making it very hard work. Tempted to report them for deceitful tactics.

I called tiscali about half an hour ago. They tried to keep me as a customer but said please give me mac code. I have now got it via email. Pretty painless, did feel sorry for chap on end of line, he was only doinf his job. Been with tiscali for 5 years so time to change. Thanks for tips on this website.

when I rang tiscali to get my mac code i was told i was in contract still, no way was that the case i joined tiscali in dec 2007, so finished my contract a year later, i had a big hazzle to get my mac code, they told me that i would have to pay a years bills. tried again another day got some one else who said they would post and tex my code, i did get code by telephone tex, but as yet no other notification. Have signed on to BT, so whatch this space to see how long i will be billed from tiscali/talk talk !!!!

I had been trying to get a MAC code from Tiscali/TalkTalk since 5th May 2010. Thanks to information from this website, I have now been told by a very helpful Rachel that I do not need a MAC code because I am not connected via a modem but by MPF (Metallic Pathway Facility) which is a piece of equipment at the BT Exchange. Sky had already been in touch with them (we can't get TalkTalkTV here) and the whole changeover should take place on 15th July. Fingers crossed!...

They try to do hard sell but don't listen to them just be straight to the poing & tell them you want a MAC code. It's your money end of the day & you decide how you spend it, not a telephone operator at the other end!

I am at my wits end with Tiscali. I have given them several chances to sort out my broadband problems and poor phone receptions. Every time I have rung customer service. technical support, billing and even cancellations they have had the cheek to charge me for my complaints and problems which are caused by their poor service and communications. They have been promising to credit my account with £50 since February 1020 for my inconvenience which they confirmed in writing at my request. I have never seen the benefit of this as they have charged me every month since I have still not seen the benefit of the credit. I have phoned them every month since March and payed for all the calls on their 08712223311 number which I have now found a free number however I have no choice but to leave them, I have still had no satisfaction as they will not help me to get my mac code as they say I don't need it and my new provider says I do. I have tried several depts at Tiscali, they say they will put me through and make me wait at least 25 minutes all to cut me off, I AM FURIOUS. if anyone can help me i would be so grateful

Well, I called at 17:28 today, and the helpful system said wait time was one minute - spent 10 mins on hold and then another dial tone which was answered by a human in about 3 rings (who said "talk talk"). Was interested in why I'd changed (Be should be better and certainly cheaper for the value package) but was happy to have MAC details sent out, and walked through what would happen next when the other provider gets the MAC. All in all, not too bad so far. Remains to be seen how it goes...

Connected fairly promptly but telephonist was extremely persistant in asking why I wanted to migrate and doggedly trying to convince me they had a better package on offer (nothing advertised!). I had to keep saying 'no thank you, may I have my MAC code please?' ad nauseum! Kept on hold for maybe 5 minutes for a 'reference number' (!!??). Call lasted over 13 minutes - not a particularly pleasant experience! Nevertheless the MAC code was sent in e-mail practically straightaway.

Got my MAC from Tiscali 8th December 2009. Transfered to BT 16th December 2009. was asked not to close the DD to Tiscali for 1 more month. Payment of £14:67 went out on 04 Jan 2010. so you would think I would get a partial refund? No they also want to charge me for February as well. According to BT (and my limited understanding of the Ofcom MAC process)once your new provider has activated your MAC code your old provider (Tiscali) is notified and that you cannot have 2 lines running on the same number! To say Im miffed with Tiscali is an understatement and as for getting intouch with there so called customer services what a joke. got cut off three times just as I was coming to the "Top of the List" I await Tiscali Threat for the money. OK Rant over back to getting a life. Will let you know how I get on.

I switched creditcards a few months ago and forgot about my monthly payment to Tiscali. Without warning they just cut me off. I spent a whole day trying to setup new payment details to a foreign rep. I've now been cut off again for no reason whatsoever. Also they have increased my payments from £12.99 to £19.99 per month without telling me. I understand that Tiscali have now become TalkTalk. What a shower. Part of the Carphonewarehouse group, who I also had to take to court, and WON. They are pathetic. One good thing has come out of this though..... I requested a MAC code this morning and it was sent to my mobile within 10 minutes. Its gonna be good bloody riddance.

I rang many times today ask MAC code from Tiscali (0845 077 4488). THe first one told me I do not need MAC code to other porviders. THen I rang PlusNet(I bought PlusNet today,) they told me Tiscali should provide me MAC by law. Then I asked Tiscali again, hold about 5 minutes then off. Rang again, wait about 20 minuts and one guy told me very angery: WE will not provide MAC, I asked why? No proper explianations. Any idea how to get rid of Tiscali? Many thanks.

Rang Tiscali (now Talk-Talk) - whom I have been with for over 5 years !!! STUPID ME !!! paying 14.99 every month like a right idiot - as O2 are giving me a deal at half the price with £50 cash back on my daughter's o2 phone bill plus £30 cashback - so that I dont pay a bill until bill for at least the next 4months ! Tiscali operator was ok to begin with - then when I asked for the MAC code - he began his sales blurb stating that he could match and even beat the O2 deal and if he were to do that would I stay with them ?! Funny that isnt it ???!!! I said to him - Funny how you (Tiscali) never ever contacted me - your long term customer - to tell me you could BEAT or MATCH another provider's lower price BEFORE !!! How come all of a sudden you can offer it to me now ? If you think I'm sticking with a provider who has been quite happy to charge me £15 a month for the past 5 years for a service that they know full well they could and would quite happily provide at half the price if I threatened to leave them - then think again !! I'm not staying with you another day if I can help it !.... He then put me on hold for another 5-7mins - came back in a very SURLY and UNHELPFUL and UNIMPRESSED attitude and processed the rest of the call very MATTER OF FACT. Thankfully didnt cut me off and even though he said it can take up to 5days for the code to come through by post or message or whatever - the e-mail came through within 30mins !! Called O2 and things are underway - lets hope that TISCALI manages to terminate my direct debit on time so that I dont get charged unnecessarily. Why am I paying for a call I Should get for free!! Rang Talk Talk on 0800 049 0049, again answered promptly, asked for MAC and was put on hold again before being cut off. Rang Talk Talk on 0800 number again. Explained previous problems re on hold and being cut off. Also asked do you have CLi? Do you recognise the STD? If I get put on hold or cut off again, forget Talk Talk, within five minutes I will be in your reception area asking to talk face to face, likewise if the MAC is invalid or out of date I will not ring again, I will visit. Had the MAC within a minute. If it is rejected for any reason god help them! I cut him short and demanded to speak to another operator. I was told the same blurb ony this time I found out that the MAC number could be texted within 5 days. Only 18 minutes on the phone and about 10 on hold. Holding breath now.

I don't know what all the fuss is about with tiscali. i phoned them at 9.30 this morning, got stratght through on the number maccode.org recommended I use, explained my situation - that BT were offering a better deal. They agreed they couldn't match it, were very civil through the whole process, wished me luck and I had my MAC code within 15 minutes.

Tiscali is using TalkTalk logo but operates as a separate company. I transferred from Tiscali to TalkTalk on 11/1/10. I'm still waiting for a final bill. TalkTalk did not require a MAC, so I didn't request one. Tiscali continued to bill me for broadband after I had transferred. If you request a MAC and new provider doesn't use it, Tiscali don't cancel service. On the day your broadband starts with new provider, call Tiscali to cancel theirs. For a refund from a transfer date earlier than the one on which you call Tiscali to cancel, you must send new provider's first bill. email: support.talktalk.co.uk/cgi-bin/uk_tiscali.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php For MAC, set request type to 'MAC request'. I thought that transferring from Tiscali to TalkTalk would be straightforward. However, Tiscali is still operating as a separate company, even though it has now been re-branded as TalkTalk. I transferred on 11 January 2010, and I am still waiting for a correct final bill from Tiscali (which is hopefully due to arrive any day now). TalkTalk did not require a MAC, so I did not request one from Tiscali. However, Tiscali continued to bill me for broadband after I had transferred to TalkTalk. Even if you do request a MAC, if your new provider does not use it, then Tiscali do not cancel your service. On the day your broadband service starts with your new provider, I recommend that you call Tiscali to cancel their broadband service. If your transfer date is earlier than the date on which you call Tiscali to cancel, then in order to get a refund from the transfer date, you need to provide a bill from your new provider as evidence of your transfer date. I've just phoned Tiscale/Talk Talk to ask for my MAC code and after reading all the stories I was a bit worried. I was connected within two minutes and spoke to a really pleasant person who could not match the price being offered. He put me straight through to the MAC dept who also couldn't have been nicer. No hard sales and off the phone about four minutes after starting the call. Fingers crossed the MAC code comes through as efficiently as the phone calls.

Naturally, the person at Tiscali kept asking why I wanted to change and he was a little persistent. I have been through the same torture. Been trying for 5 days and god knows how many calls to get a MAC code. It seems as though they have now come up with a new tactic. They are telling me that my line when i came from BT was changed to MPF and therefore I can not have a MAC code. I have complained and threatened them with OFCOM, (who from research seem to be a bit toothless anyway). This did however get me a call from them. I was then told the same thing again. I then complained again via e-mail(as ears bleeding from constanly being on hold.) I recieved another call and another e-mail telling me again that I could not have a MAC code. Can someone please help???

Spent approx 55mins on hold on the phone to the cancellation department (definately wasn't going to give up easily - must be a long queue of tiscali/talk-talk customers leaving) even though the automated talking lady said i my call would be answered in 6mins. (kinda got used to the tune they were playing and still humming it now). After getting through (to a talk talk operator) asked for my MAC code and when giving my details to them for some reason they couldnt find me so again was put on hold - then when they returned a few minutes later, they seemed to have them. (Guess they were seeing if i would hang up probably). The operator then told me my MAC code had been generated and i would recieve it within 5 days by text, email and by post. After this thought great which then they went into sales mode trying to sell me 8Mb broadband for £14.99 (sky are doing 20Mb unlimited for £15) Dont have to be a genius to work out to say No to that. After which they imideately just said bye and hung up on me. Lets see what happens within the next 5days.

painful experience. endless waits on phone to speak to someone then misinformation. waiting at present on phone as usual. been given duff info twice. first time no mac needed to migrate to bt business due to poor quality broadband on tiscali residental. second time- told me they can't issue mac code if line rental is with tiscali also. so must transfer line rental to bt first then request again. bt now saying tiscali refusing to release line rental. possibly cos i pay montly direct debit-in arrears-so stalling tactics just about to take pair of scissors to the line and then call bt out for new line and number. worth waiting 7 days without a service.

Im on a £30.00 phone .tv.broadband package and just had my 1st bill mfrom talk talk since the take over £73.00!!!! they insist i been calling my own mobile 25 times in a day < rang to sort it out took me an hour to get a reply then 3 times i was cut off. Also this so called HD from tiscali is a joke a harry potter film at xmas and thats it and then they wanted to charge £5.00 for it, i hardly call this this good HD content. A VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ANYONE LEAVING LIKE ME>> I was told 30 day notice and told them that as my contract was with tiscali and they now officially dont exist they have no legal right to try and hold me on 30 day notice!! they then replied ok your mac code will be with you in 24 hrs to 3 days( result) The customer service is crap, tiscali got a slating for its customer services but i have never had a problem before the take over. So im getting out while i can, Sky is costing me £15.00 extra a month but at least ill have 22 HD channels and someone on the end of the phone when i call, prior to tiscali we was with sky for 7 years and were now returning to em. On another note i read talk talk are ringing customers telling them there contact has expired and are trying to charhe line rental (how poor is that)TALK TALK may sound the cheaper option but in reality with the added cost of line rental brings it close to Skys £45.00 a month im sure the prices from talk talk will sneek up in the next 12 months once they have secured as many tiscali customers as possible. If you are thinking of leaving talk talk and there onabout a new contract consider this: By doing nothing within the 1st month of talk talk taking over you could well be agreeing to enter into a new contract? if that is the case then you have a cooling off period as well like any new contract? so based on my total assumption ive informed them today 12.01.2010 as that is with 14 days of talk talk taking tiscali over officially, and maybe thats why they didnt hold me to the 30day notice ? see my point. Once answered by 'Chaz' I was subjected to 12 minutes of presure sales talk including an offer of 4 free months to wait with Tiscali/Talk Talk before eventualy he understood the meaning of NO and gave in to giving me my MAC code. He then said I should have it with five days, by email, text and snail mail. Just tried to get a MAC code - had to hold for 18 minutes, and then after the constant piano playing and reminders a team member would be with me shortly, there was a click, and then a ringing tone, followed by being cut off... call me cynical, but almost as if they didn't want to give me a MAC code!?!?!

Tiscali are great,i shall miss the free line rental. Talk talk are scamming tiscali customers by ringing them and saying from jan 2010,there contracts are to expire with tiscali,hence no more free line rental. I have ben trying to transfer my broadband from Tiscali to BE. Got a MAC code from Tiscali and provided this to BE. BE contacted me to let me know the MAC code was rejected by BT due to an outstanding cancellation order on the account. Spoke to Tiscali who confirmed that there was no such cancellation order on the account. Continued trying to get the account switched from Tiscali to no avail. A few days passed and BE suggested I obtain a new MAC code from Tiscali. Spoke to Tiscali to get this and found out I couldn't be provided with a MAC code as they had cancelled my account without my permission. I have wasted 2 weeks chasing around to sort this out. I am now going to be without internet for a couple of weeks whilst BE set my new account up. Tiscali are absolutely useless.

I got a mac code from tiscalli, gave it to my new broadband provider, 3 time they tried to set me up and the mac code was invalid, i spoke with tiscali and they said yeah the mac code is correct, but have had to give me a new code. Hopefully it works this time but not holding my breathe.

Switched no problem (apart from Orange not sending me the new router in time or letting me know my account settings - my heart sank when I rang the technical centre and reached overseas - exactly why I'd left Tiscali - and just the same, nice people but duff advice. Eventually got my details from someone in the UK and set my own router up. Tiscali rang and left my MAC number on my answering machine, and sent it by letter - so I could not fault them for that (a few years ago I'd tried and waited weeks and had to keep reminding them, so thats improved no end). In all I had loss of service for under 24 hours. - but this was more about orange not letting me have my new account details first than anything on tiscali's part.

If you are on an exlusive tiscali service, ie they provide the phoneline and broadband they use there own kit which doesn't use mac codes it is called 'mpf' so basically if u need to transfer to another provider they pretty much have to send an engineer to the exchange to physically switch you're wires over to the new service, rarely in some cases you will have to pay the £120 connection fee as stated on maccode but 9/10 times they will waver this fee.

Day three and still waiting to get my MAC from Tiscali. Got the usual "help" desk overseas - they are always polite but have never in all the years I've been with tiscali have they ever sorted a problem for me - (from day 1 when they swore blind I was connected to broadband & I wasn't - took 7 calls for them to eventauly get BT to come out who confirmed they had not connected me just as I'd been saying all along! - any problems since have been just as hard work - in fact most I've given up on after 5 or more calls - such as the web space I've never been able to access or the odd fact they have 2 accounts for me and so on....). not hopeful as the guy read out the wrong email address for me, but when I corrected him he seemed not to be listening, so I also submitted the request online as in the advice above... only 2 days to go to the 5 day rule and nothing heard yet. They asked why I want to leave - the answer is this sort of thing is EXACTLY why, & is what passes for normal in my dealings with Tiscali - he also said they'd "capped" my broadband at 0.4 mbps - and would take that cap off if I'd stay- despite me having been paying them for *maximum* available speed for all these years! Aaagh!

Tiscali were very abrupt once i'd told them i was moving to Sky. They claimed that sky wouldn't need my MAC number and that i'd have to ring tiscali back soon to request other (unspecified) information. They seemed to suggest my telephone line had already been ported over to sky from BT, een though i only put the order in yesterday - whatever difference that makes. Awaiting the code to come through now before ringing Sky again

Further to my post below... it seems the MAC code was actually valid, it's all gone through fine and they now have an activation date from O2 :D So I'd recommend using the page linked to below for requesting a MAC code from Tiscali, and if your new ISP says it seems to be invalid, tell them to try it anyway... with O2 at least, if you keep entering the same code after it says it's invalid, after the third attempt it lets you continue and submit that code anyway... and in this case at least, it turns out it wasn't really invalid at all (I did copy and paste directly from Tiscali's email to make sure it was correct though).

For those people who are at work during the times the Tiscali cancellations phone line is open... I'm helping a friend migrate away from Tiscali and they're at work all day so couldn't phone, but after a lot of searching, I found that there is actually a web-based form you can use to request a MAC code: http://uk-tiscali.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/uk_tiscali.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php Select Product: Broadband and Request Type: MAC Request, and we also gave a brief explaination of why we wanted to leave (very slow speeds, plus we seem to be stuck on the old style 2mbit ADSL, and apparently Tiscali can't even upgrade us to the usual up to 8mbit at the moment, but if they could then it would be another 18 month contract). You have to enter more details on the next page to create an account as this seems to be a seperate system from Tiscali's main accounts system, but it does work... we did this at 9:30pm last night, and actually received the MAC code by email at 1:16am this morning! So just 4 hours later, even though it was the middle of the night! The only problem now is that after entering the MAC code into our new O2 Broadband account, it said the code seemed to be invalid, which seems to be something many people are experiencing with MAC codes from Tiscali and a couple of other ISPs... it did let us continue anyway with the code though, so now we're just waiting to see whether it is really valid or not.

After eventually convincing them that the account was mine, on my phoneline coming from my bank account, as it had somehow been set up in someone elses (Who we have nerver heard of!) name, managed to get the mac code. they then told me not to cancel my direct debit as they will debit me the part of the month which i had used the following month. Having checked my account, ive realised that three months later they are still taking the money! Now trying to get it back. Thank god we've moved to o2!

Dont ever go with tiscali as i just spent half the afternoon trying to resolve my problems after a year of constant problems and poor speeds under 2 meg when am only 0.5 mile away from the exchange and having an iplate broadband accelerator aswell as unstable downloading i,e stopping downloading half way through and being told alot of lies and contradicting facts of the matter.Then i decided i want my mac code so i can move to sky and was on the phone for 2 hours before i hung up on trying to get through (08450774488) do not phone this number,phone there customer care one 10 minutes.I refuse to pay for that call at the local rate may i add and there going to look into it only after i told them i would cancel my direct debit and they would get no money from me and lets wait and see if they do but am playing it safe and canceling it so they cant just whip the money out my account and then fob me of we sum other rubbish.

Rang at about 9.30am to request code. explained that i was moving to orange as they were offering it for free with my mobile- she did try to encourage me to stay with them but obviously couldnt beat what i had been offered by orange. I called today to cancel after a trouble free 2 years with Tiscali (I seem to be in the minority if reading comments about Tiscali are to be beleived). I am moving to BT as going wireless and the homehub seems the best way to go...I hope. Anyway my first call got me thru immediatley and the guy tried to sell me a reduced tariff at £12 month and unlimited which was very tempting but I said no and...I got cut off. On my second attempt I got straight back thru and a very nice chap gave me a soft-sell on the packages they offer which irefused and I got my MAC order placed which I shall awaitin up to 5 days time...

Well, I've had an horrendous Sunday morning speaking to BT. They had my wrong date of birth, a favourtie name that I'd not even set.... and so it goes on. Anyway, in sheer frustration I chose to cancel my account (b/band and phone line) - 14 days notice, fine. Signed up with sky and they learn about the MAC code. Spoke to BT cancellations - "oh, we can't provide that as theres a stop on your service". So I can't get a MAC code. Then went through all the comments on here. Well, lets try another BT department. Not sure where I ended up as I was transferred. They asked why I was leaving, explained the problems, in less than 2mins I was being quoted a MAC code - even though there was a stop on my account. No idea if this code with work but fingers and toes crossed. Good luck to everyone else.

Surprisingly simple, Simply called 0845 077 4488 and press 1 for broadband and then 1 again for cancellations. 1st attempt took around 4 minutes to get through and then got an engaged tone. 2nd attempt Took around 5 minutes (on Friday afternoon) for somebody to answer the phone. I told the operator I was moving to Sky. He tried to sell me 8Mb for the equivalent of £5/month with unlimited download usage which is only available to current customers. I told operator I wasn't interested and after reading me the cancellation terms and conditions I was asked for my current email address and mobile phone number so that I could receive the MAC code. I received MAC Code via SMS message while I was on the phone, and received the email minutes later. I have to use it before the 6th September (within 30 days) or it will expire. I will try to use the MAC code over the weekend to join up with Sky.

Getting my MAC code from Tiscali was an absolute nightmare. I chased them for my MAC after the first time of requesting - and they denied ever having received the request. Despite me being able to provide a ref no for the call and an employee name (its sad when you have to ask for this level of info every time you call). As you can guess, I went ballistic and after more ranting it was finally provided the next day together with £10 credit to cover call charges. Been with a new ISP for 3 months now and Tiscali are chasing me for -£3.12 (yes, thats a minus sign) and threatening debt recovery. Idiots.

I requested a MAC code from Tiscali on 06.05.09 & they told me because of the LLU system at my local exchange I didn't need a MAC, just to ring cancellations & cancel broadband & within 15 days I would be able to go to another ISP. Oh no I couldn't they failed to tell me I had to register 1st with another ISP before I cancelled, after 15 days my line went dead & I have lost a phone number I have had for 37 years & have had to pay £112.50 for another line from BT, I am livid. Tiscali says it will not reimburse the money as far as they are concerned they did the right thing, but I believe I was misinformed. Is it illegal not to provide a MAC code?

i was very happy with Tiscali up to a month ago when my DSL broadband went from an average of 200kB/s to around 10kB/s. my tiscali 2MB line is currently so slow, that YouTube pages aren't even loading, let alone streaming video. i've phoned them 3 three times in the last 2 weeks and nothing has been done. so i have just phoned now to get my MAC code, and they tell me that they are closed for the Bank Holiday and to phone back later. so i have to put up with Dial Up speeds, with no way to do anything about it for three days. Tiscali and i are through.

Have had the same DNS error with Tiscali three times now, my site is currentluy down and it is costing mer a fortune, They refuse to accept that it is THEIR DNS error, that everyone outside of Tiscali can view certain websites sat on a UK server BUT anyone with Tiscali can't. The pass me from pillar to post and now i have phopned up twice for a MAC and this time they are having technical issues. I hate them with a vengence, they have wasted hours of my time and being kept on the phone being passed from one idiot to another for over an hour to have nothing logged by way of a complaint or a fault is not acceptible - they do this every time and all they say is " This isn't a Tiscali fault" They must have a bit of paper with that phrase written on it. It is appaling that an ISP can't even update its DNS. I am told that they are being taken over by Carphone Warehouse. I am happy to go back to BT and pay through the nose because at least if i have an Issue I get proper customer service from someone in the UK who isn't programmed with Tiscali shoite. Can you tell I am furious???

Getting my MAC code from Tiscali was one of the best customer services I have ever received, the person who took my call gave me all the information and advice that I needed on changing from Tiscali to another service provider. My MAC code was texted to my mobile phone and emailed to me within a couple of hours, and a letter containing my MAC code was also delivered to my house within the required five days. Honestly I don`t work for Tiscali, it`s just that in these days of poor customer services I felt that I had to write a note of praise, although Tiscali`s internet service has been utter rubbish for the past year getting a MAC code was very good service.

Tiscali are disgraceful, after finding out my 'free' line rental wasn't free and them taking forever in the provisions team to decide if they'll refund me, i decided to go elsewhere. Rang tiscali who first of all said they won't give me mac code cause i need to change line rental first. So tried changing line rental & broadband to post office who say that they charge £130 to accept line. This is cause Tiscali take line off network and post office would have to give me a new line. On of the few places I can change to for free is BT who I left cause they gave me hassle before tiscali. Found out that if tiscali won't hand over my mac code, that's illegal and I can report them to someone like ofcom!

I have found all my dealings with Tiscali to be painful. After requesting a transfer of service and being assured it had been completed, I then found out it hadn't and needed to be restarted. Fed up, I requested a MAC code and provided a mobile number and alternative email address. No joy on either, Tiscali not available at weekends, unhelpful call centre... It used to be AOL with all the bad press - Tiscali rank right up there.

Just had a MAC code issued by Tiscali as one of their unwanted (unless I pay twice) customers thru 186k. No trouble getting it - just didn't work. Apparently it was a used code! Also told it would expire on 12 February - i.e. 15 days rather than the legally required 30 days. Of course there is no-one who enforces these regulations, so they can do what they like.

My experience with Tiscali's so called customer care is that they will tell you they are doing something (in this case sending me my MAC code). But won't actually do anything at all. I've contacted them twice know. Been told both times that they are sending me my MAC code, I'm still waiting a week later!

canceled my broadband on the 28th of Dec. Despite being reassured that mac code will be send to my email account and also as text msg to my mobile within 24 hrs, didn't get it until a while ago, after I called them myself...

Tiscali told me that they dont issue Mac codes. I was told to ring BT even though ive been with Tiscali 1.5 years.BT said it was nothing to do with them. Not looking forward to the inevitable conflict

I've just switched from Tiscali and I didn't have any problems at all. Called, asked for my MAC code, got it the same day via txt and email and I transitioned very smoothly. Glad I swapped because I now have exactly what I wanted (wireless network)for less than ordinary bband / email on Tiscali whereas their answers were alway no to all of my requests.

after reading the comments on here i was not looking forward to phoning tiscali. but it was very quick and simple. got through almost straight away, the person i spoke to was very helpful and the whole thing only took a few minutes. mac code was text to me within 15 mins, email sent that day and a letter received with in two days. no problems at all.

I had heard Tiscali were pretty poor at issuing a MAC code so was pretty apprehensive. After fending off a couple of questions about why I was leaving and if the problem could be solved by one of their technical team they accepted I wanted to leave and told me they would issue a code. 20 minutes later I received a text with the code plus I also got an email as well so I can't complain about that.

had nothing but trouble trying to get a mac code from tiscali, first time i tried i was told it would be emailed to me, didnt get an email, second time i tried was told it would be emailed and posted to me within 5 working days still nothing!!! they only provide a 512kb service and o2 provide 3meg i need to change!!

Tiscali are the worst company I have ever had to deal with, they are ignorant, rude and poorly trained. I have just got my MAC code after having to deal with their incompetent tech. support line. One of their sales staff even agreed with my when I told him their tech. Never again.

Tiscali are without doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. I spent countless hours being passed from one moron to another trying to get my MAC code and then they charged me for 3 months when I was with another provider. I hope they go bust.

Phoned Tiscali for my mac code,had to wait 3mins for them to answer and was told they will text it to me within 24hrs ,i got it 5hrs later and had no problesm what so ever , a first for Tiscali!!

phoned to ask for MAC, quite pushy trying to keep me as customer, managed to insist for code. 1 week later, no code phoned again, "we have no record of a request" followed by more pushy jargon. then was hung-up on. Phoned back, "how can we help" just give me my ###### code.... Now waiting for some response.. fingers crossed.

Tiscali are useless and unhelpful and should be avoided totally, they are not able to provide customer care, repeatedly transfer you from one department to another, all of them being totally uncaring and unhelpful and talking to INDIA regarding a UK based problem is total insanity. I have experience of remote call centres and they are not able to assist as they have no local knowledge, their responses are "Parrot Fashion" as they are reading from prepared responses and they are unable to communicate sensibly at any level, whilst they are polite and show an attempt at being helpful thats where it ends. After many long winded phone calls where you are passed from one non helpful department to another equally as bad, multiple emails to different email addresses, months down the line the only option is to tell them to keep their service and go elsewhere, I have requested my MAC code and now wait a response, I certainly won't be holding my breath and a prompt response with the right action will be a first for them and a great surprise to me.

No internet access for over 3 weeks, they finally blamed BT (who deny its their problem obviously). Have just requested my MAC code to be sent by text so I can switch to BT. Fingers crossed

I have been with tiscali for about 2 years and they have been very helpful and supportive from the very start. When i telephoned to ask for the MAC code they where unhappy that i was leaving but gave me this code with no problem at all. I am delighted with this outcome and delighted with tiscali.

Having read the feedback regarding Tiscali, I was expecting the worst but I must say that when I phoned at the first attempt, I went through to an advisor called Mohammed within 2 mins of calling. He confirmed that they were not providing me with the phone line and he said that he would get a MAC code generated e-mailed, posted and sent by text to me within 48 hours. He was all very helpful and explained everything to me very clearly. The most surprising thing of all is that within 15 MINUTES, I had received a text message giving me the MAC code. SO if it works when the new provider uses it, all I can say is THANK YOU TISCALI. Perhaps they have taken notice of all the previous issues at last!!

Having read these comments last night I approched tiscali this morning with my request for 'MAC' code. Got straight through and the chap was very helpful. Got home from work and an email with the code was waiting for me. The only problem is he mentioned I'd lose my tiscali email accounts..is there a way of saving the address /redirecting mail etc??

Rang Tiscali 5 times about it, although they seemed very helpful and polite each time they said it was sorted and to wait 10 days but nothing happened. Problem has been going on for months, each time being told a different excuse.... eg. BT engineer has been booked to upgrade the line.... your account doesn't match up with your number..... YOU DONT EXIST ON OUR SYSTEM..... ect. ect. Finally got sick of it... requested a MAC code... got it fine. Now to find a better supplier who offers low speed broadband with unlimited usage.... they seem in short supply.

For me, getting the MAC code was fine and prompt - what happened after that is the problem: I was told by Tiscali cancellations department (on the phone) and also in the letter sent to me containing the MAC code, that once I used it and the switch to my new provider was complete, then my Tiscali service would be "automatically cancelled"... However I noticed 2 weeks later that my Tiscali email account was still active and rang Tiscali to check why... I was told my Tiscali broadband service was it still "active" and had not been cancelled. I'd used the MAC code and happily had my service activated by my new ISP... so how can this be? Tiscali are outrageous.

I requested the MAC code from Tiscali and all appeared to go well(apart from being cut off twice at the 5 minutes holding mark). Also ironic that their system was working 'very slowly' when I called. The Mac code arrived within an hour by text and e-mail and I advised Sky of my MAC code, only to be told that I had a wrong code, which did not match my phone number. I now have to wait until after the weekend to contact them again.

I am still trying to get my mac code from tiscali it has been 4 days now and 3 calls later I've was told my request has failed and will have to wait another 5days until u can get it and every time you ask why they would cut the call and the line would go dead over all a very poor service indeed and would recomend to know one and really needs looking in to by offcom so bewarned whom ever reads this never never consider tiscali as a phone or broardband provider thankyou neil

Tiscali customer service is the worst I have ever seen. I had requested to cancel the TV package and upgrade the internet to 8MBPS and get a free line rental. But instead, they cancelled the package totally which included broadband and phone as well. They werent ready to do anythnig inspite of the fault on their side. Finally I am moving to another provider as the experience with Tiscali was terrible.

spent 3 weeks without house phone costing us a fortune on the mobile calling India very broken English when asked for someone who could speak English kept getting cut off eventuallly got House phone back on and lost internet 4 weeks of them telling us that it was us and not them another 2 weeks to get Mac code (we were given the code after 3 days but it was the wrong one) then they would not switch connection to Bt as they were asked still getting charged even though we told them we had left and were not going to pay them any more We are now on BT it was not us it was the exchange Thank god we are rid of them but they are still sending us bills 6 months on never again.

They promised within 5 days, 21 days later they still haven't provided the MAC code despite calling them to progress it. The entire service I have had from this supplier has been terrible, this final action just proves how poor they are. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Absoutel attrocious. They were very inconsiderate and were very dry. i know that no one wants anyone to leave their service but they should provide a better one. I don't recomment anyone using tiscali.

Not possible to get code over weekend. Hope to have no problem as engineer agreed speeds of 1% of max speed is unacceptable. Often no faster than dial-up, even though I have had 5.4Mbps.

I just rang direct to 0845 0774488 and my request for MAC was dealt with very politely. The gentleman asked why I was leaving (I'm yet ANOTHER disastrous 'upgrade' from Homechoice, by the way) and that was that... Fingers crossed I get my code in two days or so.....

Same as everyone else, avoid Tiscali at all costs!!! My broadband/tv service stopped working, they never fixed it (after one month!)so I decided easier to move to sky!!! maybe not. Got a mac (easily over the phone after being bounced between departments)and waited two weeks then called Sky as no broadband kit had arrived, they say mac is invalid and was an AOL mac Tiscali had given me! Contacted Tiscali who now say can't give another mac as my account cancelled, not only that they delayed the cancellation date by one week so I have to wait until their marker is off my line. I am praying it is removed by next week I want them off my line!!!!!!!!!! probably looking at 6 weeks without internet thanks to them. Have cancelled direct debits and hav in writing that I don't owe them money but I have a feeling this won't be the last bill I receive!

Absolute nightmare getting Tiscali to cough up my MAC code. It's been a MONTH. I've complaned to the ISPA, and intend to complain to Ofcom. They promised me the code would be with me (via email, post, and SMS to my mobile) within 5 days. At the time, I had no idea they were OBLIGED to supply one within that timeframe, so when it didn't arrive I wasn't too worried. But as the weeks passed I did a bit of research on the net and discovered that within 5 days is mandatory! That's when I started chasing them for it. I've emailed their complaints department - had absolutely no response. When I call their cancellations line, I can't understand what they're saying because of the language barrier. I can't wait to be out of the clutches of the evil Tiscali. I just hope they don't keep billing me like some of the people who have commented on here. I'm tempted to phone my bank and put a stop on the payments, so that I can just pay them what I owe AND NOT A PENNY MORE! Avoid Tiscali at all costs!

MAC code requested from Tiscali and received on email within minutes. Completed online form with BE Broadband. Modem received from BE 9 days later and service connected following day. Total of 10 days. Whether problems lie ahead, ie Tiscali not cancelling my account and still debitting me, remains to be seen but as for the transfer it went as it should.

hi firts of all i switched to tiscali just before they took over pipex and when i went to get my mac code because of the terrible speeds they said my account was still with pipex yet i was getting billed by tiscali and i had a tiscali email address???? ive been with them since november 08 im paying for tiscali max 8mb broadband coz thats what they told me my line was capable of but since ive been trying to switch all the other isp's only offer me 2mb so i called tiscali and asked them to do a line speed check and yes its 2mb so ive been paying over the odds for a service speed i cant even get (tiscali max 8mb unlimited £19.99) (2mb unlimited £6.99) so what do i do? can i get a refund for the difference over the last 8 months...........

This winge might sound odd on a site devoted to mac codes because I don't want one! But allow me to relate my tale... In April 07 I moved to Bulgaria and let my property in Liverpool. I have 2 lines into the property, so cancelling my broadband and phone on one line seemed sensible, leaving the tenant the option of activating the other line. (Which he never has, because he only uses a mobile) I advised Tiscali that I wanted to close my account and naively thought that that was the end of the story. They are still robbing me after 14 months !!! I have communicated with them by letter, email and phone on so many occasions that I have lost count. They do not send bills - usually it is a Notice of Suspension with threats to call in the bailiffs. Bear in mind that I am in Bulgaria and do not need anyone harrassing my tenant ! After contacting them, receiving assurances that if the bill is paid the account will be terminated I can relax for a few weeks until the next notification arrives and the whole cycle must be repeated. It is absolutely infuriating - I even have the sympathy of the debt collection agency they employ but Tiscali will not let me go!!!!! We have given our tenant notice to quit, intend to return to the UK in June and suppose we must then begin litigation to put a stop to this. Is anyone else in the Liverpool area experiencing this type of manipulation? Does anyone have any advice on any counter-action I can take without the expense of employing a lawyer?? ANY advice would be welcome.

I received MAC code alright with no problems. The woman tried to get me to stay by offering me a good deal but I had made up my mind. My only problem is that I am still being charged dispite moving to another provider. Not sure who is at fault though, Tiscali or the other provider? My internet connection is crap now so maybe I should have stayed with Tiscali after all.

Tiscali refuse to provide Mac code, saying they can't provide one, however checking with my new supplier ( o2 ) they can confirm that Tiscali have placed a tag on the line blocking me from migrating. Tiscali say because my account was never activated ( I cancelled it within 10 workings days of signing up )so they cannot provide a mac code, becuase their computer system won't let them. I cannot migrate away from Tiscali because of this or get another broadband service because of the actions of Tiscali.

my experience with getting my MAC code was a joke , took 2 weeks, may of even took longer if they had not had an e-mail from ofcom,he,he, they dont like ofcom involvement but like breeching the rules it seems, they feed you the bull sh*t about its bt's fault it takes so long, they try and tell you they have to write to them, bull they will be requesting it via a pc linked to bt wholesale and it dont take 24 hrs never mind their bull saying it takes days if other isp's can/do provide a mac within 3 days to the customer why cant tiscali, simple they dont want to ,and when you do eventually get the mac they say its invalid, more bull(in my case)as i had already used it, do not sign up with them

Our broadband connection with BT went dead without warning. We were told Tiscali had their tag on the line, somehow without our knowledge/permission they cancelled our contract with BT. We have never been with Tiscali, we did not have a mac code as we never asked for our account to be moved. It took 3 weeks to get back on line and numerous phone calls to BT, Tiscali and Ofcom. Our investigations led to Supanet (our previous provider) who must buy connections from Tiscali. I would never trust Tiscali, Supanet (Internexus) or Eclipse.

Just tried to get rid of Tiscali, only started to set them up two weeks ago, but now they want more money for the service. I have had to make 4 phone calls to different offices this afternoon to try and cancel the contract, but they are now being difficult about providing the MAC code. If you are looking for a broadband and call provider DO NOT TRY TISCALI - go to a sensible company - preferably one that employs people who actually speak good english! I don't know if I will ever get my Internet sorted - thanks Tiscali!

After 6 weeks from asking for my mac code, I received it. Then after going to another provider, Tiscali are still trying to charge me for a service that I no longer have, and say that I have not asked to cancel my account. Even though I have it in writing from tiscali, that my account will be cancelled. How bad is that. 30 minutes on the phone to sort this out, with someone who is not even capable of simple tasks. Stay well clear of Tiscali. The most terrible service ever. Will never recommend.

I eventually got a MAC code after 3 attempts, but unfortunately when I gave it to Sky they said it was incorrect!!!!! Surprise, surprise. Must admit I've given up for the time being as I can't be without internet connection. They've got us over a barrel.

I spent 15 minutes on hold but it was very quick after that. Tiscali obviously tried to tempt me to stay, as they all do, but it was easy to say a polite but firm 'No, thank you'. They explained the procedure very thoroughly and clearly and, all in all, this was a quick & painless escape. I think the key to success is to be prepared, stick to your guns, and remain polite and reasonable at all times.

I haven't had broadband since mid-January and I haven't had an action out of them in all that time. I talked to a very sympathetic man last week, who said he would arrange my MAC code; he also suggested that I should have all charges rescinded because of the poor service I received. It's a week later and I'm no further forward, but I am about £20 poorer since they've cut off my phone and I now have to talk to them on my mobile. Watchdog here I come .............

No it doesn't depend on how you approach them. They really are terrible, I could hardly get online during February and spent a fortune ringing them. Eventually I cancelled in the way they ask you to. I've now received a demand for this months payment, I migrated from them at the end of February. They even promised me compensation for a lack of connection, it didn't happen. Have a look at Tiscali's forum and see what people think of them.

Well I phoned 08450774488 (Select Option 1) 2 hours ago. I spoke to a Tiscali Rep & asked for a MAC Code he asked if I was leaving & I told him that I was "Window Shopping" at the moment & looking to see what deals were out there, he asked what I was paying & what speed I was getting, I told him & he said, "If you wanted to save some time, I could do you Up to 8 Meg unlimited for £9.99, think about it, in the meantime I'll get your code underway" I was on the phone less that 5 mins. I recieved my code via E/mail & text 1/2 hour ago. Pretty good service I'd say, Like anything it depends how you approach people.

Useless! No call centre at weekends! Can't get my code-which prevents me from ordering a BT online offer-as they need my MAC code. Tiscali broadband keeps cutting out when we use the phone! Hopeless!

I was a little concerned having read the comments here! However, the whole process was pain-free, got through to the cancellations dept. straight away and my MAC code was texted and e-mailed to me within 30 minutes.

avoid tiscali they refused today to give me my mac code after i spent hours getting through to them on the number they give you. They say im not the account holder despite me being the person paying them via direct debit for the last 2 years when the account was transferred to my name. previously it was in the name of my ex. I now find they will neiter replace the faulty modem nor give me the mac code. Ive cancelled the direct debit as im not entitled to the service as they claim im not the account holder, and will contact offcom in the morning re how to access the mac code. BEWARE !!!

i have been trying to gea tag remove from my line before febuary the 25th i have spent at least 5 evenings solidbeing pushed fr om one deartment to another and srill the tag is on mu line i am at my wits end and u donot know what to do noe

Rang twice for a MAC code. Dispite promises of sending it over the e mail and mobile, never received it. Keeps you hanging on the phone for ages. Really frustrated.

Tiscali are terrible. I wasted so much money waiting for them to answer the phone and when they diid they werent helpful. I decided to go with Tiscali for my talk and Broadband, so notified them, i recieved a letter saying it would be 10 days till i went live. I notified BT who decided to charge me £70 to cancel, because of this i decided to stay with BT for talk and get broadband through SKY who i have my TV with. I notified Tiscali within the 14 day cooling off period who cancelled it immediately, i requested a MAC code to give to Sky but Tiscali told me there wouldnt be one as i hadnt even gone live with them, ie: i cancelled before anything was even sent to me. So.... i phoned up Sky and requested Broadband, guess what they asked... there seems to be a MAC code on your line and we need the code before we go any further.. Sooo i rang Tiscali and they said there isnt a MAC code blah blah blah and the TAG should be off the line within 7 days, does this sound right? Should there be a TAG on the line when i never had broadband in the first place? PLEASE HELP!!!

so far so good. had a very pleasent 3vminute conversation and was told mac code would be with me within 5 days. By the looks of some other comments, perhaps my chances of actually getting it are slimmer than i thought???

They are terrible. I have been without broadband for over 2 weeks and they refuse to give me a MAC code. I will be consulting ofcom.

NEVER NEVER AGAIN WITH TISCALI, THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWES TO OPPERATE AS A BROADBAND PROVIDER. RUDE ON THE PHONE, THEY ONLY WANT U TO HEAR THEIRE STORY NOT YOURS. I HAVE LEFT THEME IN OCTOBER 2007 BUT THEY WERE STILL CHARGING ME, AND THIS IS MARCH 2008 ????!!!! I HOPE THIS FEED BACK WILL HELP OTHER USERS

so glad i am changing to BT as Tiscali Are terrible i tried to call to get my modem replaced this took an hour and i still got no modem! i called BT and Got my MAC code this took less time than trying to fix my damn modem with Tiscali. What a releif i am off to BT

Called cancel line 3 times and cut off 3 times. I will tell my new provided to inform them in writing and I will also do the same and cancel the direct debit. As long as you have written details and have these sent record delivery then they should not be able to charge you for their failure to stop billing you.

They are horrendous, I have asked for my MAC code and they won't give me it they say someone will call you and they never do, I have been waiting over a month for my upgrade and nothing, and they will not release a Mac code for me, surely this is extortion as they are taking money for services they are not providing.

Absolute nightmare getting away from Tiscali. After three phone calls (each time spending close to 30 minutes on hold) I was eventually told that they didn't own the tags on the line so couldnt' give a MAC code. Which is tripe. After more toing and froing I eventually had to report the case to OFCOM who got things moving. Call OFCOM as soon as you have a problem, it seems the only way to get help!!

NIGEL: I think Talk Talk were wrong as they should have asked you for a mac code - it's the easiest way how to switch broadband. However, I don't know the specifics of your case.

Hi i am due to switch to talk talk on wednesday this week,tiscali were excellent for giving mac code although talk talk said i didnt need mac, got my live date from talk talk and phoned tiscali who said they should have used mac and now i have to pay for tiscali until end of march instead of 6th march , whos fault is this? regards Nigel, please email back, thanks.

They are useless. Dial-up speeds on a 8mb service and online support doesn't answer your questions. Can't wait to change - but can't get a MAC code over the weekend - so will have to wait until Monday. Can't come soon enough!

The worst provider in my experience to escape from! This is my 3rd attempt. They make it as hard as PHYSICALLY possible to get the Mac code or cancel. Last time I had a verbal confirmation that the Mac code would be sent, but never was. I don't hold out much hope apart from canceling the service and having to be without internet at home for 2 weeks. GRrrrrrrrr..
