Hi I was going to transfer my broadband from Sky and had no problems getting through to customer services lady who ended up offering me free line rental for a year if I stayed with them and also unlimited call package free for as year - not bad so I've decided to transfer my line rental to them. My MAC code was texted to me 2 days later.

i have been trying to get a mac code from sky since sunday i have spent over 7 hours on the phone to them and every time they would just hang up. i was advised by my new supplier to contact ofcom as what sky are doing is against the law they can not with hold this imformation, finally today i think i have break through went i told sky i had contacted ofcom, they have now told me they will text it in 48 hours and sent in the post in 5 days so fingers crossed. so to all who need that mac code just mention ofcom to sky to panic them.

Been trying to get a mac code from sky now for over a month now every time i phone i get a different answer as to why i cant have it then sometimes they say i can have it we will just transfer you the person they transfer you to says they dont have it and dont know why you where transferd to them or they say the tag on the line gets removed when you cancel your broardband and you will not need a mac code but so far it has not the staff seem to have had no training and at the end of the phone call you end up more confused than helped.

Ask Sky to cut off my broadband. I then asked for a MAC code. They said it will come in the post within 5 days. Today, I got a letter telling me that I had ended all services with Sky (TV, Broadband, HD) and they gave me a cut off date. I only wanted to get rid of broadband. And still no MAC code.

Found this information on Sky website today... Call the Sky Broadband team: 08442 410 515 (UK) If you choose another internet service provider, Sky Broadband can give you a MAC (Migration Authorisation Code), a number that identifies your broadband connection and will enable you to switch suppliers without too much interruption to your service. Requesting a MAC: You should request a MAC from us to ensure minimal disruption to your broadband service. This process does not apply if you want to move to a cable broadband provider and you are in a cable area. You can ask Sky for your MAC by calling us or completing our online form (look for the form and our telephone number under 'Sky Broadband' on our Contact Us page) or write to us at: Sky Broadband Subscriber Services PO Box 43 Livingston West Lothian EH54 7DD You will need to provide us with your Sky Broadband account details when requesting a MAC. Next steps: Once we have provided you with a MAC you should contact your new broadband provider with this information. You need to do this within 30 days of the date we issue your MAC as otherwise it will no longer be valid. If your MAC expires before you pass it on to your new broadband provider you will have to contact us again to get a new MAC. If your new broadband provider accepts the MAC which Sky will supply you with, it will normally take around 10 working days to go live on their service. Your new broadband provider will be able to tell you when this will be. Sky Broadband will cease when your new broadband service is active. If your new provider does not accept your MAC then you may need to remove your existing Sky Broadband service from your line before you can order a broadband service from your new provider. We recommend you talk to your new provider to find out the best way of changing providers if they can’t accept our MAC. If your new provider says that you must remove your existing Sky Broadband service before ordering your new broadband service, please contact our Customer Services Team and request the cancellation of this service. You'll find our details on the Contact Us page. If you are not transferring providers or you have chosen a cable company to supply your broadband service, please advise us accordingly to allow us to cancel your Sky Broadband to ensure no further billings are applied. You'll find our details on the Contact Us page. Sky will not be able to provide a MAC if: 1. We cannot validate that you are the named Sky account holder (or an approved Sky account contact). 2. Your Sky Broadband service is currently in the process of being terminated (for example, if you have already asked us to cancel your Sky Broadband service before asking for a MAC). 3. Your Sky Broadband service has already been terminated (for example, if you have asked us to cancel your Sky Broadband service instead of asking for a MAC. 4. A MAC has been provided by Sky and is still valid (i.e. within 30 days of the issue date). In this situation Sky will remind you of the current MAC details. If we are unable to provide you with a MAC we will let you know why. MACs can’t be used in certain types of broadband moves, or it might be that your new broadband provider does not support automatic migrations using MACs. We recommend you check with the broadband provider you want to switch to. I need to complain about MAC provision from Sky: We want to provide the best possible service, however, we understand that faults can occur and, when they do, we want to correct them quickly. We offer a comprehensive complaint handling process to solve your problem as quickly as possible. When you call us, a customer service adviser will note the details of the problem and agree a course of action with you. If you are unhappy with the response you receive, you may ask for the matter to be referred to a manager for further investigation. If you remain unhappy and wish to make a complaint about any failure in issuing you a MAC, please contact us via our Broadband enquiry form or write to us at: Sky Broadband Subscriber Services PO Box 43 Livingston West Lothian EH54 7DD We will promise to investigate the matter and contact you as quickly as possible with a resolution to the problem and or a full explanation. Further contact details for Sky can be found on the Contact Us page. Going to call them tomorrow and cancel my... so will see how I get on :-)

I called Sky to obtain a MAC code on 08705 515 515. The number is no longer in use, the message advises re-dialling on 0844 2410515 which doesn't have the option to request a MAC code.

I asked for my mac code from sky on Friday 13th June. Received mac code via text message on Tuesday 17th June, which I thought was quick ! At least they got something right.Shame can't get broadband speed right ! Leaving sky cause only getting 0.5 mb when its 3.5 mb in area
J(23/05/2008 15:20:16)
Sky texted me the MAC code after 48 hours of my request, i was delighted. Unfortunately, when i passed it on to O2, they said it is an invalid one. I called back to SKY, they said it is valid one, and if I want another one, I have to wait for another 30 days. I am confused, I know someone is lying, and I know it is less likely to be O2. What should I do? I am tired of waiting for nothing.

I asked for a MAC code on 26 April, and still haven't received it (as of 20/5). 3rd phone to them tonight and they tried the ask BT for it. They are such a bunch of amateurs.

Sky would not give me the code as my husband is the account holder (didn't have no trouble accepting payment off me though!) When he phoned they would only post it, would not give it us over the phone. Useless!!
Chris Bradbury(14/05/2008 18:44:11)
Apart from maybe speaking to a few more people than I strictly needed to it was a breeze; the MAC code was texted to my mobile within 3 days and a paper copy arrived in the post 2 days later.
Daniel(21/04/2008 16:17:32)

trying to get a mac code from sky is like getting blood from a stone. If anyone is thinking about going to sky get your mac code before signing up but they will not let you cancel.I have been with sky for 3yrs and have had so many problems, spending more than 7hours on the phone,so fed up with being put on hold.Thinking of moving house just to get rid of them
Jo Verrier(10/03/2008 20:16:57)
Changing from Sky is proving impossible... Despite speaking to at least 15 people at sky dating back to January when we canceled the account. They will not give us a mac code. They have also suggested ringing bt when we speak to bt they say the tag is a sky code and they cant remove it. Sky are breaking the law and the service is APPALLING. I will NEVER use sky broadband again.... But at the moment I cant use anyone else!!
