Tips & Experience from other Orange users

Angela(28/12/2008 01:34:46)
I decided to leave Orange after connection trouble earlier in the year and spending a fortune talking to the technical help operators. I have been with them since Freeserve days. I asked for a Mac code after seeing a good offer from BT. - also I had heard good reports about BT broadband. I asked for the Mac code to be emailed to me. My son in law also requested a code later the same day and received it via email a few hours later. I didn't receive mine and phoned after a week to ask where it was. I was told they had not received my request (even though I spoke to someone on the phone and was offered 6 months free if I stayed with Orange) and I would have to wait another 5 working days for the Mac code. When I said I wanted it straight away I was put on hold for a while. When she returned I was given the Mac code over the phone and received the email days later. I was told I would have to pay another months charges as it takes 30 days to cancel. I have already stopped the direct debit. I asked her to send me a bill in the post if I owe anything but she said Orange don't do post. The change over to BT was easy. Everything arrived on the day BT said it would and I had emails from BT to tell me my line was up and running before I had even connected the hub AND they don't charge 50p per minute for technical advice - it's free.
MikeT(25/12/2008 16:08:29)
I've been waiting for a MAC code off of Orange since November 2005. A request every couple of weeks yields no results. Useless.
Wayne Austin(22/12/2008 20:18:07)
VERY poor customer service the indian call centers should be ashamed of themselves, very repetitive, told i could not leave and that i would have to pay BT to move back to them and basically tried to scare me into staying, before pleading with me to stay with "Special" offers. Absolute rip off, badly trained indian staff and even poorly trained uk staff who seem to behave like kids. Do they really need to bully you into staying with them. Finally got my mac code and received a call from Orange telling me I'd have to pay them some amount of money. Just told them to BUGGER off, the operator terminated the call.... ;)
Bertie Wiseman(20/12/2008 11:52:02)
I managed to get my mac code second time I phoned the operator, first time I phoned I got told it would sease to be active with in the next three weeks, I couldnt wait long enough, so I applied for postoffice broadband they told me to ring orange and get a mac code. Being honest I decided to lie to get out of my contract mainly becuase what i read on all the forums, I so I said i was moving house which did the trick. while i was with orange as was not evan getting 2meg worth of broadband width when I should of aleast be getting 6.5 in my area, I got lied to on the phone by the indian operator saying I can only get 2meg, I checked before hand on BT they say I should be getting 6.5, thee inian guy say said my filter was faulter, I all ready new it wasnt sas I tried different filters before. over all I did get my mac code by email, I am waiting to here from the post office soon to see if it has worked.
benn hopkinson(16/12/2008 20:45:20)
called orange for mac to go to tiscali. they said i would owe them £150 as still in contract!!!!!!!!!!! PMSL! the only contract i had was with freeserve when it 1st started. been on 512k £17.99 package from when wanadoo took over years ago so couldnt beleive they were trying it on. asked them why am i under contract they said someone upgraded the service for me. fools then admitted the account had never been upgraded from 512k to anyhting else and they didnt have any names who authorised the upgraded and which member of staff started it off. they finished the conversation saying even though there isnt any names on my acct authorising the phantom upgrade it must have been someone pretending to be me! PMSL!!! im not laughing anymore though because they took £176 out of my acct yesterday. i have promptly emailed them back and await an outcome. got mac code in 24hrs! very strange service
allen@stjohnshall.fsnet.co.uk(12/12/2008 17:26:42)
orange say they do not recognise my number. That I do not have an account with them. I have been at this number at thiss address for 22 years I rang AOL and they said they didn't recognise my number. So I am stuck. BT say my account is being serviced by Barclays, a bank I left 12 years ago
Georgie G(08/12/2008 19:18:07)
I have today applied for my Orange MAC code, I will consider tommorrow "day 1". They did not give me the option of email and when I asked they flatly refused, saying they only send them in the post. I will keep you updated at days 3 and 5, in the hope I have it by then! Orange "free" 2mb is shocking. Moving to O2 16mb. Hurrah!
Mark Williams(29/11/2008 20:49:58)
I can't get a ringing code on any of the numbers on offer, nor find an email. Do I really have to send a letter in this day and age and for this type of service. Ridiculous and very unhepful.
Roy Parrish(29/11/2008 12:06:08)
Had MAC code in writing within 4 days. Most unhelpful until I demanded MAC code before they had messed me around somthing rotten
ray(21/11/2008 20:18:01)
pretty much the same as Jeremy Leffler below, am now waiting for mac code by post. They didn't mention that I could have it by email
Colin Brownlow(21/11/2008 08:02:51)
Orange, what a laugh ha ha. I have been with then for just over a year, because they only accept direct debit payments and you cannot pay your bill by debit card, I have had problems with billing. I am on the home max package @ 24.00 per month but have not been able to make a phone call since February 2008, they say my line is active, but I have had to phone them on my mobile or at work. My internet connection has been reduced to 512kbs but they maintain that I am still getting at least 6mbps. Do not go with orange, they are a waste of time and rip users off. I have asked for my MAC CODE and guess what, they refuse to give me it, stating that I owe them money. Today my direct debit came out of my account for 24.00, which I will be reclaiming back, as orange have broke thier contract with me by not providing the service that I paid for e.g no phone and slow internet access.
martyn(16/11/2008 13:52:00)
I've been unable to receive broadband because orange have left a tag on my line which i can not remove!! i've been waiting 2 months now. rubbish DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WITH ORANGE.......EVER!!
alice(02/11/2008 16:25:57)
so far so good, on hold for a while while operator had to "check" with customer services then transfered through and told will recieve mac code in 5 days, i asked for it to be sent by email. so just got to wait and see now! all very polite so far.
Reg(31/10/2008 13:14:08)
Takes longer on phone to get mac code on phone than serving a years contract (or so it seems, they try to offer a better deal, pass to three different operators, all very polite, time taken about 15 minutes)
rupchoudhry(17/10/2008 22:23:33)
I asked for a mac code over two weeks ago and have heard nothing from them. infact i have had at lest two calls from their sales team offering new extended telphone and other services during this time. As soon as i tell them i am moving away from orange and ask for my MAC code they put the phone down. Most disappointed and unlikely to use their service again. Rup choudhry
Mal(16/10/2008 09:43:30)
The reason we are leaving Orange is because our internet has been down for the last 10 days and we are getting no response from them, keep testing line and saying no fault, then fault, then say there was no fault. Had enough, all I need is my internet connected. Have paid out for IT expert to look at pc, confirms problem is with line. Orange not willing to give MAC code, saying we have a contract with them, but we have been with them for past 4/5 years since freeserve days, how does this mean we have a contract? They seemed surprised we were leaving, I attempted to explain that they have broken their contract through not supplying us with internet connection...they don't seem to understand!!! Asking for one month payment although I have paid at the beginning of the month in advance, and have had no connection. Where do I stand on this? I am DESPERATE!!!
Trevor C(14/10/2008 13:25:09)
No problems with Orange Broadband, but the O2 offer was too good to refuse as I have an O2 mobile. Phoned Orange on Friday. A pleasant operator asked why I was changing, but no pressure. Talked me briefly through the process, including cancelling the direct debit, and said the MAC would be sent within 5 working days. The MAC arrived by email on Monday.
Cristin Rocha(30/09/2008 18:09:35)
Very difficult! I was having a lodger who brought his broadband (Orange) with him. Now he is gone and I can't get a MAC from Orange to have broadband with BT. I am in the situation where I'll need to remove the existing line and install a new one ... Not sure that is possible.
andy(29/09/2008 17:53:49)
Called Orange 10 days ago - just kept repeating "I just want a MAC code" every time they went off subject. Eventually said they would e-mail within 5 days. Never received e-mail so have just called back and was given MAC code over the phone.
CAROL(25/09/2008 14:11:26)
I HAVE HEARD BAD REPORTS ABOUT PEOPLE GETTING THEIR MAC CODE FROM ORANGE. I REQUESTED MY MAC CODE AT 14.15 ON THE 24/9/2008 ON THE 25/9/2008 AT 10.38 I RECEIVED MY CODE EXCELLENT SERVICE I HOPE THE REST OF THE CHANGEOVER TO SKY IS AS EASY
Andrea Johnson(17/09/2008 12:14:12)
Just tried to get a MAC code from Orange. Got lots of sales pitch. Told me I was a loyal customer and could match the offer from TalkTalk if I would stay with them. After repeatedly asking for a MAC code the operator became distinctly less friendly and said I would get it within 3 to 5 days. Why couldn't he just tell me? Having read about other Orange users experiences, I feel rather apprehensive about ever getting one. Watch this space!
andrea(15/09/2008 12:33:47)
bad, i phoned them 3 weeks ago, they said they can only email me the MAC code, still waiting for it, called them back today and they kept me on the phone 15 minutes trying to get me to stay with them. in the end i hung up and called back, still left hanging on the phone, have to wait for an email with the MAC code, so now ive lost the offer from sky!! thank you orange.
Caroline(08/09/2008 15:49:00)
I have requested by MAC code on 2 occassion over the last 3 weeks and still not received it. Called again today and I been told that they can not give it to me now as it comes from there technical department and they can not give me a number. They say the problem I am having trouble obtaining by MAC code is as I took our my Moble and Broadband contract together,. I have requested it again without much hope of ever getting it. Does anyone have a contact number that might actually sort this out for me?
Austin Hayward(30/08/2008 09:50:53)
I have been with Orange since Freeserve and Wanadoo days and the customer service has gone from medocre to apalling.Overseas call centres with poor telephone links don't work. There are now two Companies I will never again deal with as long as I have breath in my body and until Hell becomes an ice rink...Orange and British Gas.Both Corporate disasters!PS Managed to get my Mac Code within 5 days after being offered free broadband for 6 months. What an indictment.
Sheila Pitts(29/08/2008 14:07:17)
I signed up with O2 two weeks ago. I received the MAC code from Orange last week, and O2 say that the line will be active on 3rd September, but Orange say that I will have to pay them for another month even though I am also paying O2. I have been with Orange for a few years and there is a 30 day notice to end the contract. How could this duplication of payment been avoided? Their letter says not to cancel the contract as this will be done automatically.
Mike Ortmans(28/08/2008 12:58:35)
Orange were absolutely attrocious, if not illegal. Fistly, they said there was a fault 'On my Line!', then said my MAC code could not be found. Ten days later I had to phone them again, when they said the only option was to cancel my account immediately. I rang again and insisted on receiving my code or I would take legal action. Only then was my code given to me. The operators were rude throughout and as awkward as possible.
John(14/08/2008 17:05:08)
Orange what a bunch of monkeys. I have now been on the phone every day for the last 4weeks for a mac code i have had every story under the sun and I'm now loosing my patients with them. I have still not got any code can someone tell me if they can give me a code over the phone. I would never tell anyone to go with orange. and reading other peoples feed back on them I think Ofcom should look into them and shut them down they are just a bunch of coning cowboys Very angry orange customer (not for long) John
Frankie Thomson(13/08/2008 15:32:42)
I have been a loyal customer with orange and they will not send me my mac code for me to change providers. I have called on 4 occassions to be put off with the usual excuse of "it's being ordered for you and will be sent out between 3 to 5 days". But it never is. I have actually had to cancel my direct debit with orange, in order to see what comes of this. NEVER EVER JOIN ORANGE BROADBAND AS YOU WILL NEVER BE ALLOWED TO JOIN ANOTHER PROVIDER.
Ricky Keegan(08/08/2008 15:12:41)
Hi I have tried to call orange 3 times. they are charging me 4p per minute for the call. the indian guy would not listen to what i wanted. i said 'i'd like a mac code please'. it took literally 4/5 minutes my account information to appear on his screen. i asked for them to call me back, but was told 'we do not have the authority to do it from this office'. firstly he told me wrong information about my account.. .then after 10 mins.... he tried to tell me about other 'great packages'. i don't want to know about these. i just want my mac code! one question they did ot ask.. was 'why are you considering leaving orange?' the answer to that would be terrible crappy customer service that don't listen to what you want and keep you on hold for bloody ages. then they transfer the call to 'another department'. what a load of bull. at the moment, i am still trying to get my mac code..... Virgin or BT - stand by for my call.
David Miller(24/07/2008 18:25:56)
Orange is the worst I have ever experienced . So far I have been on the phone for about 3 1/2 hour , two requests for a MAC code and still nothing.
David Cooper(23/07/2008 17:26:28)
I asked for my mac code from Orange at 6pm on a Friday,And I recieved an email with my code on the following Monday with a detailed explanation of what I needed to do next,I never had any problems at all and I think they were very good.
Ken Longrigg(03/07/2008 20:33:46)
Lousy Orange broadband speed and being ripped off with costly monthly subscriptions. Requested MAC code. Orange told me that there was an order to upgrade my 'phone line (to increase broadband speed and nothing to do with me) therefore they were unable to give me my MAC code. After much argument they relented and agreed to Email it. After five days E-mail received from Orange to effect that they were unable to provide but should do so within next seven days. This is unacceptable and I feel I am just being lied to. Will wait and see. Would never recommend Orange.
OAP(23/06/2008 16:57:09)
Asked for PAC and Mac code.PAC Code arrived and not MAC code. So after 7 days rang and was told it was on screen and will pass me to someone who will give it to me.The next person said not on screen and could not give it to me.So I SAID SOMEBODY IS LYING WHICH ONE IS IT AS I HAD NAMES OF BOTH.Spent over 40 mins before I got it.and they were very obstructing and I kept reminding them THEY HAD ALREADY BROKEN THE LAW by not sending it the first time. Wanted a cancellation fee and I had been with them over 18 months but the had restarted the contracted when they upgraded me to a performance I could never received.Several moths ago I asked for my money back for the lack of performance and the refused so I have gone elsewhere as I am not paying for something I am not getting. This no doubt will go on so watch this space and maybe Orange and I may meet in court as I have been paying for something that does not comply with the supply of goods and services act.
Marella(07/06/2008 07:21:43)
The first time I asked for a MAC code I rang at 7.30 in the morning and managed to cut through the sales pitch by saying I genuinly had to go to work and I wanted a MAC code. It didn't arive so I called them about 3 weeks later- the operator gave it to me over the phone. However, when I tried to use it a few days later, it had expired! The second time, Ihave not had the sales talk but have redirected from one department to another, sometimes on the free lines, sometimes on the premium rate lines. What can you do- the operator refused to talk to me, saying I needed to speak to the relevent department...anyhow, I eventually got through and requested my MAC code again, that was 2 weeks ago and still heard nothing.
SerenityD(03/06/2008 18:53:51)
Only one word to describe this, frustrating. After dealing with bad customer service we decided to switch. Was offered half price broadband but we think it's time we made a change. Orange said they'd send us the MAC code by post in 5 days but 10 days later no code. Phoned up again and was told I need to wait till the 7th June before I can request it. If their technicians had been prepared to admit their livebox was faulty in the first place rather then just fobbing off the blame on the BT Line, (which was fine after checking with BT) then we might not be switching but there you go. Hopefully on the 7th this can be sorted out.
Viva(02/06/2008 22:40:31)
Orange they should be called black orange after too many calls to bore you with and going from one country to another only to be put back here to be told by some arrogant twerp that they would charge me £200 for leaving and to give me my mac code, you don't pay that much to switch morgages! How do they get away with it,, steer clear from Orange whatever you do, they won't get a penny from me that's for sure
Thomas GHraham(29/05/2008 11:56:09)
Clear reluctantce to just give me the code. Tried hard (but in a rather off-hand way; perhaps that's just the Geordie manner)to sell me their own product instead, which would have been fine, except that it eventually became apparent that they had no equivalent (their bundled package required two separate phone systems, one connected to the router). Time consuming. Then said they could not give me the MAC there and then, but would have to order it, and would I like it ordered by post or email (derrr). All in all, distinctly reluctant just to get on with the simple business of giving me the code.
michelle hicks(27/05/2008 19:56:26)
orange refused to give it to me saying i had started a new 2 year contract a few weeks ago. i never agreed to a new contract with them nor was i ever advised id be doing so.
a.probert(25/05/2008 16:51:34)
hard work! Orange did not want to lose a customer - I can understand that, but the calkl room staff could have been a bit more gracious about it! Was kept on the phone for ages and the musak was truly awful! 5 working days seem a tad too long
Paul Todd(24/05/2008 16:54:43)
Orange have provided me with 2 Invalid MAC codes now ! ive given up on what to do :(
Janice Bailey(20/05/2008 12:17:07)
rang to get my mac code from orange - got it via email the next day - however, they asked me if cost was the reason I was moving as they could reduce the monthly cost to me if I stayed. So if you're on orange I suggest you call them anyway for a code and get your payments reduced!
Andrea(19/05/2008 10:13:30)
I contacted Orange last Monday and had a none too good experience with lines cutting out, kept waiting for ages and then handed over to their sales people. I am still waiting for my MAC code.....after reading the comments below I'm now more anxious. I want to switch to BT; is it possible to start afresh with BT and cancel my Orange connection without using a MAC?
John Barnett(15/05/2008 11:38:31)
Cancelled Orange 5 March but still being charged in May. Rang them only to be told I needed a MAC code and that I should have called them back within 2 days to confirm cancellation. Categorically, NO-ONE TOLD ME THIS! Now have to go through the rigmarole again.
sally jones(12/05/2008 04:49:36)
awful requested mac code 2 weeks ago i,m still waiting
Emma(09/05/2008 12:21:19)
The worst customer services ever. Couldn't understand clearly what he was saying. When I said I wanted to switch providers, he said I had to pay £120 to 'terminate' my contract early. Am now stuck in limbo as it's my word against his that I didn't know about any minimum contract deal. Don't use orange broadband.
Jacqueline Russell(07/05/2008 12:16:19)
Yes! a very polite young man answered and asked why I wanted to leave to go to BT, I explained that I wanted TV box, wireless hub n phone, line charge n calls for a third of what I pay each month to orange for only a 2mb speed and a wirless box, what could he say? but my mac code will arrive in 2 days by email and good luck on your change over!!
Michelle Bolton(06/05/2008 12:50:47)
i thought it was terrible, i now have to get in touch with the people who used to live in our house to get the mac code because they have to speak to the account holder. i could tell them all the details tho but the mac code could still not be given. good luck to me to see if i can get in touch with them!!
Jon B (London)(30/04/2008 09:24:42)
After repeated failures from Orange broadband - where I was passed pillar to post by their incompetent technical services department. I have now asked them to send me my MAC code. I will wait and see when if I get it. I was disgusted with Orange and the way they do not care about customer service. I am so pleased to be leaving them. I will wait and see how long it takes for their MAC code to arrive.
Mel Jeffrey(27/04/2008 13:38:13)
There was no option to press for obtaining MAC code so just let the phone ring. This was answered almost imediately and from then on my experience mirrored that of Jeremy Leffler (see below for 12/03/08). The e-mail has been promised within the next 5 days. Here's hoping!
John Gardner(15/04/2008 09:01:39)
Rang Orange for a MAC, told it would be issued in 3 to 5 days - customer has received numerous calls asking why they want to change from Orange but as yet (6 days later ) no MAC. This is a typical reponse from Orange whose support personnel are belligerent if not downright rude. As an IT professional I can state that the spam received via an Orange account is now so prolific that it makes use of their Pop3 mail service untenable.
JOHN SMEE(10/04/2008 17:16:07)
I have been waiting since 25th march for my mac code,e mailed and phoned 7 times ,keep being told being processed.bloody disgusting
rosepyle(08/04/2008 10:01:37)
i have been trying to get the mac-code from orange but it going to cost 400 pound for the fee is this right it also keeps crashing my daughter tryed for an hour last night... thank you rose pyle
Sally Marlow(08/04/2008 00:12:53)
I'm having the same problems as alot of others in trying to get my MAC code from Orange.I've been subjected to interminable holds on the phone, rudeness from call centre staff, an inquisition as to why I wanted my MAC code, promises that I would get it within 5 days twice and still I have heard nothing, this was 3 weeks ago.Can someone tell me what I should to get some sort of result?
chris shaw(06/04/2008 14:47:40)
hi i work for BT and I advise my customers that if a company is refusing to give the MAC code that they should just inform the company that they will be going to OFCOM as they are "hijacking the line". Use that terminology and they will jump feet, and quickly give out the MAC code. i get free broadband with BT and so i rang up orange to cancel my Broadband and they totally lied about what speeds i get etc. i did a check and i get literally 0.500mbs and they claimed i should be getting the full 8mbs, and said that it must have been down to the way i set it up or the line cant support it... which doesnt make sense as I did a check at work the other day and i should be reaching speeds of 6.5mps. still they were nice and eventually he did give up the code
micheal ellis(05/04/2008 23:33:23)

No problem getting mac from Orange by email within 48hrs.Gave it to sky who i was going to eveything going fine untill after 2wks when checking my order with sky found i was getting a refund for router, sky had not even bothered to tell me.On phoning sky twice no one could tell me why my order had been cancelled.I tried emailing sky after the second email they told me the mac code didn`t work.Phoned Orange they said nothing wrong with mac code told Sky they said there was and to get a new one.So now i`ve got to wait another 2wks untill i can get another mac code and who`s to say the next ones gonna be any good
john smee(31/03/2008 18:41:54)
I requested my mac code last tuesday 24/3/08 and still waiting for it.i was told as i was leaving orange the next 6 months would be free and they would reduce my monthly broad band from £17.99 to £9.99.if i keep with orange.i declined as i am going for bt package.
CliveAlive(29/03/2008 19:26:34)
I did meet resistance in cancelling, £15pcm suddenly was slashed to £5, even for me contracticting their previous "sorry, new customers only. BUT ref the MAC code, it arrived in less than 24 hours, so no complaints there. But my new O2 deal, wow!! I tried to leave mobile contract at £35pcm for 400mins. When I ended the call I had £5pcm for 400mins, 1,000 texts and free unlimited broadband plus wireless router + McAffee!! Incredible !! There must be a massive profit margina and some fierce competition out there.
Paul W(29/03/2008 15:49:19)
What a nightmare- Orange offer 3 routes to get a mac code, web message, email or call centre. Used the first and it never got actioned. 8 days later contacted the call centre, promised MAC by post in 5 days. This has still not arrived, but after 7 days I contacted call centre and was given it verbally. Passed to SKY via web order, order accepted and paid installation fee. 2 days later contacted to say order cancelled due to invalid MAC. Complained to Orange, who insisted it was correct, Back to SKY ordered again(paid again) 4 days later found it had been cancelled again due to invalid MAC, lots more phone calls - Orange claiming it was valid, Sky saying it was not. Today checked with BT Broadband who said MAC was good, so back to Sky who still say they are validating it using BT system (Penfold) which is rejecting the Mac code. So now have to wait until this Mac has expired and I can get another one. total of around 15 calls and 4 hours on the phone, getting nowhere. What a load of B....... can only think the BT system is not giving consistent data. Customer service on both Sky and Orange, found to be very frustrating, each blaming the other.
Eileen Buckett(29/03/2008 13:44:18)
Fabulous. No pressure applied. Very understanding.
Mick Jennings(26/03/2008 12:47:42)
My premium rate 'phone call took several minutes to connect. I then asked for my MAC code, and had to be transfered to another person with a better offer (why they had to wait for me to request a code to get a better offer is beyond me?) All I wanted was the code which apparently has to be posted (in 3-5 days) I am literate and could take down the 17-18 alphanumeric number but no, we have to go through this. No wonder I want to end the services of Orange!

If I call late at night, will I still get the Indian call centre. Last year I asked for my MAC and got loads of pitter patter and ended up signing up for another year. This time however, I don't want all that as I want to get my MAC code and sign up to Be before the end of March? From reading orangeproblems you always seem to get penalised too - something along the lines of having to give 30 days notice of your itention to leave, so you have to pay for a month even though you will probably use your MAC code and scarper within 7 days, so you end up for a months service you only use 7 days of. I still have a month left on my contract, but I may as well get out now if I am going to be penalised anyway Anyway, just wondering if it's India all the time, and would I get transferred to the relevant dept (as people mention) over Easter, or am I better off waiting until after the break

Ooooh! Hard work!. They offered me half price for the next twelve months, they offered me a new e-mail address because I complained that my current one is now full of SPAM, and junk, they offered me everything except my MAC code. In the end, I said all I wanted was the MAC code, so they've promised to e-Mail it to me.. We shall see if it arrives!!

Not very forthcoming, after being bounced around every known call centre in every middle east / asian country known the the western world, and playing the press 1 press 5 press, x press y on their automated phone system. Having to explain over and over and over again what i wanted to do, Leaving orange is like trying to cancel the proverbial Encylopidia subscription, once they have you... thats it till you die.. ohh and dont expect to get to speak to anyone at this telecommunications company, they can hide behind a very complex and frustrating telephone automation system, changing numbers when ever they like to premium rate numbers, switch automated options when they like, cut you off, or pressing options just leads you towards a ringing, unanswered and then automatic cut off, with a nice automated voice say all our lines are busy........ good bye. !

I had a monthly mobile & broadband package with Orange which cost £35 per month. I don’t use the mobile often enough and as a SKY customer can get 8MB broadband for £5 per month so I decided to cancel the contract which was up on 1st March. I contacted Orange on the 6th February to give notice that I wished to terminate the contract and requested a MAC code to transfer broadband supplier to SKY. I have had to phone Orange a further 4 times. Every time I phoned I was promised a MAC code would be sent to me within 5 days by either E-mail or snail mail. I have tried requested both these routes to see if t would make any difference but I am still waiting. It is proving to be an impossible task to get a MAC code from Orange. The call centre is obviously somewhere in India, the telephone lines are poor, it’s difficult to understand what some of the staff as saying, and with each call costing between £1.10 and £2.18, it’s not only frustrating, its expensive. Don’t try and complain as you will be wasting your breath. I have asked to speak to a manager and was fobbed off, the operator said he the manager would tell me the same thing. I tried unsuccessfully to make a formal complaint over the telephone and was told it had to be in writing, I eventually hung up. I telephoned Orange today, 15th March, and again have been promised the MAC, this time, within three days, we shall see!

I have recently asked Orange for my mac code to switch suppliers as they are unable to provide wireless broadband in the area to which I have just moved. They have told me that if I use this code to switch to another supplier that they will carge me £254.53. Any thoughts gratefully received.

I had cancelled my mobile contract and asked to cancell my free broadband which came with it. Once I had desided to switch to BT, BT asked me for my MAC code. I contacted Orange Broadband customer services and was told my contract had to be finished before i got it, when I was told this I told them BT said they had to give it to me within 5 working days. They gave me a new numnber to call who eventually said they would email it to me which I never got. So today I called them again using the number on your site and they gave it to me without any problems but they did mention that code ends on the 26th of march.

I went trough on a crackly line to someone called Wickram who had an Indian accent. The quality of the line suggested he was not in this country. He was courteous but went through a series of questions about why I wanted to move, then put me on hold for a couple of minutes while he consulted with someone "in the relevant department" Then he transferred me to someone on a clear line with a British accent (south-east / "estuarine") who started to go through a sales pitch with me to try and get me to stay with Orange, even though I had said the reason I was migrating was to get all my utilities bills bundled and so save money. I said, "Please can you give me my MAC code and not the sales talk?" After that he cut straight to the chase and made the necessary arrangements. I await the code by email. I could have done without the unnecessary chat, but the people I spoke to were polite and did what I asked when I made it clear I knew what I was asking for and that I was not in the market for continuing with Orange.

i have been told for the last 8 weeks that there is a technical problem and they are not able to issue MAC codes at the moment. I have raised it with OFCOM, they are going to pursue Orange. Their service was bad.My Neighbour gets real 4 MB downloads and i get 400kb at most. I am a comms engineer and understand attenuation and when i complained about this i was asked to defrag my hard drive. I could go into this, but i am sure you all know how pointless this is. They throttle the connection and have a high share contention. I dont have to say anymore to those who are in the know. Do not go with Orange, go with an independent...

"system is down so you have to phone again the next day" typical response from a company like orange

It's a nightmare trying to leave Orange as your ISP, as a look at the Orange Problems website will testify. I requested my MAC on 22nd January and they have failed twice so far to supply it within the legally require five-day period. I am leaving because I am stuck on 0.5 Meg and because of lousy customer service.

good service and reliable but too expensive, off to o2.

I have placed a move house request on 8th January 2008, and until today which is the 7th March 2008, they are still telling me there is problem with my order and can not provide me with the internet service (I have call them at least twice a week to check on the progress), therefore I ask for a MAC code to move on to BT because they told me they can provide me with the internet with 5 working days. However when I ask Orange for the MAC code the cancellation team guy call "IAN" told me it will take 5 working days to get the MAC code order and send to me by post, so I want to know what is my right in this issue, being unable to use the internet for the pass 2 months, and still get ask to keep waiting for MAC code and engineer review. Thanks

I asked for my mac code and it was supplied in 7 working days but I was told that if the code was used a fee of £15 would be applied to my closing account. Not sure if they can do this?
Jon Hammond(05/03/2008 15:01:18)
Knowing how long Orange can keep you on the phone at times, I asked for a MAC code by e-mail. I received an acknowledgement of my request by return, and was sent the MAC code within the week. I have no complaints.

Rang Orange at 10.30pm on Thursday night asking for a MAC code - it arrived by e-mail at 11.15am Friday morning cant do better than that!!

Zena: We can't provide you the MAC code. Only Orange can provide you the MacCode. We know that Orange can be sometimes difficult to get Mac Code. Tell them that you will make a complaint to ISPA and OFCOM and hopefully they will change their mind.

Can you please give me my MAC Code for telephone number 01980xxxxxx at the above e-mail address as none of the support phone numbers work.
Mac(24/02/2008 16:26:13)
They wouldn't tell me just kept on about WiFi and how wonderful they were! Although their prices are sky high for what you get, I tried hard but to get away I put the phone down. Next I received a livebox for wireless and talk which I just didn't want with them. I'm ready to try again but what do I say and get what I want without being bamboozled?
