Tips & Experience from other O2 users

Moved home and my internet speed dropped like a stone so I decided to change to BT infinity , Mac code takes 24 hours to arrive and thn I cannot use it for 7 days--My recent experience with O2 has been dreadful
Danny Gowing(15/09/2011 12:59:54)
Terrible, didn't want to give it over then line went dead. 2nd attempt - Equally as reluctant then finally did, refused to read it out to me and sent it on an email that I am still waiting for. Blatantly trying tricks to make me give up.

Told to present valid ID in shop even after confirming security details. Told 3 days in row that request could not be completed as "system was down". When I finally received mac code, was told that I could not SUPPLY this to another provider for at least 10 days or I would be charged £15. This was all blatant misinformation and was from speaking to around 4 people in total so was not limited to any specific individual or department. Would advise against anybody thinking about choosing O2 as a broadband provider.

I've tried to get my mac code 4 times now from O2 over the phone. Ive emailed them twice and have now emailed their complaints department. O2 are awful our connection has been poor for well over 6 months and now that im leaving their service is even worse.
N.D.Bruce(30/07/2011 10:36:52)
No problems apart for being on hold for 5 minutes. I have been promised my MAC in the next 24 hrs, so I'll just have to wait and see.
Kym Morris(17/06/2011 15:37:30)
A farce. I asked for the MAC and was told they would send me a jiffy bag to send the router back with. They said don't use the MAC within 7 days or I'll be charged for not giving notice of leaving. I waited 10 days, then used the MAC. O2 first denied that I used it and sent me ANOTHER jiffy bag, then they told me that using the MAC was not notice and they were continuing to bill me because I hadn't told them I was leaving - contrary to previous statements and the fact they had disconnected me!

o2 refuse to give me a mac key. saying i still owe them money when i clearly dont. waiting to hear of there billing department. stay clear of o2
alex lowes(01/03/2011 13:20:14)

I decided to leave O2 simply for a change. I like to change providers every so often and after 2-3 years with O2 decided now was the time. After previously been with toucan and sky and money not being an issue, I decided to go with O2's sister company BE unlimited who seemed to be able to offer a better speed and I'd read they were highly rated. I phoned O2 for a mac code and it arrived that fast that I was still on the phone when I got the email. Couldn't fault O2's service and will no doubt be back with them at some point in the future

Requested Mac code from O2 so we can move to a better (cheaper package) and was given this but when tried by PlusNet they have said it is invalid, went back to O2 and they said it is valid, spent 3 days calling and trying to request a new one, still waiting
O R Crow(08/12/2010 13:34:22)
I am unable to use a telephone for medical reasons, I have emailed o2 on many occasions asking for an alternative to calling for a MAC code due to this, they just keep telling me to call the number. I'm getting nowhere. Help needed

I moved house, after moving I was automatically switched to a high priced package. When I queried how my broadband was going in terms of being re-connected, I was told everything should be working fine no problems, when I tried it didn't work. I was then told my username and password wouldn't work on my broadband because i was on a different package, when I asked what he ment, he explained i was automatically moved to another package. After a lot of argueing they agreed to price match with previous package only to find they still took the higher rate out of my account. I was also unhappy about entering a 12 month contract on a new package that was less that I got previously, more restrictions on downloads and speed during peak hours. I was also told this was the only package I could have. Not only that I have lost my static IP because I was told there was not enough ports in the exchange and they had to piggy back off of BT equipment, even though I am on the same exchange as the old house (both houses were ten minutes away from each other). i was told my password would have to be reset and that it would take 5 working days !! 5 working days later, and i was told that my case is with the 3rd line support team (work a reset password ?? ) i also queried the charges, they agreed to refund the difference yet I only got part of the difference. I started to lose my temper at this point and requested my MAC code. I was told i was speaking to a mear technical support person and that I would have to be transfered. The department i need to speak to are not there. I requested a call back, he said he wasn't working the following day, my response being NOT FROM YOU because you can't give me my MAC code. I said to the person that i would call back. Next morning, a little calmer, I phoned again, requested my MAC code, wasn't transfered, the person ask why, I explained the reasons and without any ado was told 24 hours i will receive a text and email. Still waiting. I will chase again tomorrow. Not a happy bunny.

I Requested my Mac key from o2 they sent me one via text. I went to my new supplier gave them the Mac key and then they tell me that o2 have supplied me with an Invalid key so my order cannot be processed, go back to o2 thay confirm that the Mac code is invalid and I am still waiting for my new Mac key to be texted to a day later.
Louise Rogers(18/10/2010 09:24:15)
Got a mac code by text from o2 related email was sent to the wrong email only problem is sky say it hasn't been validated at o2's end and o2 says it has???? how do you get it sorted????
Salawan(29/09/2010 16:01:26)

Bill Doherty(18/09/2010 16:09:29)
Received MAC key within one hour
Graham Elwell(13/09/2010 12:38:53)
My experience is horrendous. My son is in the Marines so of course he only gets home ocaasionally. He however is the account holder even though I pay the bill. We want to change BT Broadband but can't because my son cannot contact them and even if he did he cannot remember his password. Added to which he no longer has the O2 mobile, he changed to Orange because of O2's policy regarding contracts oversea. I only have one option, change my phone number!
Casique(03/07/2010 08:31:22)
Requested Mac code and did't get it, operator transferred me to another phone number that was unanswered
Jack(02/06/2010 10:42:29)
SHOCKING!!! Asked o2 for a mac and they have switched me of. after 3 days I still have no mac and have been told its on its way.
geoff rudolf(20/11/2009 20:58:02)
first telephone request over a week ago ignored - was told it would be text and e-mailed, nothing has been sent.
val(16/11/2009 11:54:50)
i called them for more than an hour to request for it. they somehow blocked my online o2 account and i couldnt access it anymore. I called them for it, another an hour wasted waiting for someone to pickup the phone. They gave me a mac code but it is not recognised! I HATE O2!!
Callum Toser(22/07/2009 11:11:09)
Absolutely terrible. Terrible internet service, months of lies and disapointment. Trying to get a MAC code from o2 is like trying to get blood from a stone.
Douglas Angell(06/06/2009 14:32:21)
unable to get a mac code as it is the previous tenant who has the contract and I can not get in contact with them to cancel the account
Avril Hall(02/06/2009 13:05:41)
Hi -had no problem getting MAC Code from orange - very helpful staff - Got it via E mail 24hrs later. Not yet decided whomoving to - MAC valid for a month
Dave(21/05/2009 16:21:20)
you say its £50 to leave in contract but thats not correct - i called and they said it was my remaining contract months * monthly charge for me but customers who signed up before 2009 can leave for £50.
Kevin(06/05/2009 12:39:04)
MAC was supplied but O2 carried on billing me as I hadn't phoned them to cancel the broadband account. They are still demanding money 3 months after MAC was used. I'd used the MAC system before and I've never had to phone a supplier up after using the MAC before. I'm not impressed with o@ at all.
James(15/04/2009 16:30:49)
O2 know how to do thing properly unlike the Tiscali lot who were a constant nightmare to me, my Mac code arrived by email in 10 mins with clear instructions, they have provided a first class service for over a year now, I really felt sad to leave them for Sky broadband and TV package.
