I have been on the phone today to get my MAC code from MAAF only to be told that i have to pay for the next month and also pay a cancellation charge of £33.20 surely this cannot be legal practise??? no freetime when they were supposedly upgrading last month posted 29/04/2009

I've been with MAAF for 8+ years, initially on dial-up and then an unlimited broadband connection with no contract for years. Generally good connectivity but slow (500 kbps). It's a pricey ISP at £23.99 per month and I'm looking to save money as the recession bites. I really just wanted to move my connection from a dedicated second phone line to my mormal domestic line, but MAAF see that as a change of house and want to charge a big ransom for the priviledge of remaining with them at £24 a month - some hope! They do have a very good newsgroup server at no charge, and I'll have to subscribe now if I want access to the binary groups. I got my MAC code over the phone without any trouble, although I'm not sure exactly what the 30 day conditions attached mean. Some strange stuff about being liable for any charges over the next 30 days if I use the code to switch or not being able to revert to my old terms if I decide to remain with MAAF....

An update to MAAF MAC Code request. MAAF now have a dedicated cancellation page which can be reached here: http://www.madasafish.com/support/billing/cancellation/grass_is_greener.shtml and here also: http://www.madasafish.com/frequently-asked-questions/broadband-migration.shtml Both give the number 0845 140 6002 lines open 9:00am-9:00pm Mon-Fri. The alternative number rather than paying 0845 would be 0114 2965098. I would like to update more regarding MAAF MAC requests and changing over to a different ISP but im still fumming over the latest addition to an already growing list of complaints/furstration/customer disservice.

Phoned MAAF this morning to give 28 days notice to cancel our broadband (we started with on the 3rd OCT 07 today>3rd OCt = 28days) and request a MAC code. The 1st time i called everything seemed fine was told the account would end on the 3rd OCT and someone would call with the MAC code. Phoned again tonight to check that all the details were ok only to find out that nothing has been noted on the account. I was put through to cancellations and spoke to Sam again stated i would like a MAC code and give 28 days notice. Asked if any charges would be made with me cancelling the broadband i was told no apart from my usual monthly fee till OCT. I have now recieved an invoice today stating the following on the invoice: Deferred Activation £34.86 Deferred Hardware (D-Link DSL924 Wireless Kit) £51.06 Then add VAT on and it comes to £100.96 Im giving 28 days notice to cancel my account which finishes on the 3rd OCT been told i wouldnt incur extra charges only to find out that im being ripped by £100 when im giving the proper notice period!

Have been trying to get a MAC from Madasafish since 3rd March (Now 10th March!)Originally spoke to cancellation Dept (apparantly they are the only ones that can give the MAC to me), who said they would email a MAC within 24 hours but nothing has been received. Have tried to speak to Cancellation dept several times since but they are never available!!

please PLEASE if you have any sense at all, DO NOT reapeat DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS ISP, ONCE YOU HAVE SIGNED, ALL KINDS OF HIDDEN CHARGES ARE ADDED TO YOU BILL, YOU CAN NEVER GET THREW TO THEM OR HAVE ANY PROBLEMS YOU MAY HAVE SORTED OUT IN WHAT ANYONE WOULD CALL A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THERE CHARGES ARE EXTORTIONATE, AND THEY ARE VERY RELUCTANT TO ISSUE A MAC CODE, IF YOU WISH TO SWITCH ISP'S.
